Angry Cell phone stolen!!

So I was in Sams Club on saturday doing some shopping, had my cell phone in the cart, checked out and I must have left it in the cart. When I realized I had forgot it, I went back to the store, none of the cart attendants had found it and no one turned it in. My GF called my number and it went straight to voicemail and it wouldnt accept any of her texts. She used her locater to seewhere it was its last known location was the Sams club parking lot! Immediately called ATT customer service and they said it looked like the SIM card on the phone did not match (?) so they said looks like someone stole it. Had ATT kill the phone and they are sending me a new one tomorrow. WTF!! Been checking my bank statements and everything seems fine. Has anyone ever had this experience? Can the asshole do anything with my phone?

As long as your phone has a password of some form you should be OK. If you have the tracking service you should also have the ability to wipe it remotely, or perhaps AT&T could do this for you.

I had my phone stolen out of my hand, from a guy on a motorbike, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

This was 5 years ago, the "remote erase" on icloud is still 'pending'. I assume the phone had been dismantled and sold for parts. Probably fed the guy's family for a year

Yes. Had mine stolen at a work conference when I was in Chicago at the Palmer Hotel. You would think this wouldn't be a problem for an upscale hotel but it was. I realized my phone was missing from my bag almost 15 minutes after last using it. Tried calling my phone. Yup went straight to voicemail. So the asshole knew what he was doing. Put a stolen flag on it with Sprint. The bastard had it up on Craig's List immediately and sold it a little less than 24 hours later for $200.

I found out about all of this when I get a call from a Sprint store in Aurora, Il about a week later. The buyer of the phone tried to activate it. The employees said they didn't think he was involved and was a victim like me. The buyer thought the phone was legit as he did check with Sprint to see if the phone was ok. The thief probably knew it would take some time for the lost/stolen flag to propagate through Sprint's systems. The employee asked if I wanted the phone back. I said of course.

I got the phone back a couple of days later. The SIM card was gone along with the micro SD card I ahd in it with pictures. Also the Spiegen case was gone.

I am assuming it was android phone, today it is worthless to steel an iPhone as long as you have a password or finger print setup. If the IPhone is locked there is no way to hack it and sell it, even the FBI has to spend Millions to get someone to crack and locked iPhone.

The iPhone is useless to them, they is no way to restore the phone to factory default without your password. Even if you plug it into a computer and update date the software it immediately ask for your password and will not update without the password. If they put it in wrong 10 time it bricks the phone never to be recover again. I am personally not aware of away around this and I use to jailbreak iphones in the past.

It sounds like whomever took it did not realize it worthless to them.

this is why i have both a 5 digit password and my fingerprint on my iPhone, my wife thinks I'm being "sneaky" ! I keep telling her to do the same but she hasn't. Luckily she never loses stuff like i do. This is also why i don't do apple pay (also i don't need it to be easier to spend money).

I have not keep on Android since I exited 3 yrs ago, however, I know most phones being sold today in the Android world are not running the latest versions of Android, and I believe you can still root an android phone fairly easily.

https://developer.android.com/about/...rds/index.html

Only 0.2% are running a version with most of the safeguard. unlike iOS at 89% as of Sept '17

Correct me if I am wrong, Google has service to erase everything on phone remotely, but after that person would be able to use the phone completely wiped? Also if you have password set and dont erase anything, a person still cannot access anything unless he wipes the phone?

Sorry to hear about that. I thought most people these days do not steal GPS tracking devices.
