Ah. Interesting you point out they advise you to keep that letter and your traditional plate in the car still. Someone I know had their Lambo impounded in Cali a few days ago because the cop wouldn't accept his registration and insurance info on his phone. Cop wanted physical papers. Apparently it's up to the cop's discretion on if they will accept documents on your phone.

I know that letter says "If you have any questions call the DMV or Reviver Support", but I doubt a cop is gonna do that while he has you pulled over.

As for the power thing. There is a battery in the plate. And I'm fairly certain it uses GPS when the car is off and when the plate is unplugged, because I think I read they can track the plates location if it's stolen.

1) It requires very little electricity to display the plate number, as it uses a low power screen. There is a battery inside that gets charged from your vehicle, to display the plate number when you're vehicle is off, and in case the plate is stolen. I wonder how their screen compares to the ones most phones use today, where the blacks are actually pixels that are turned off, therefore consuming even less power. When the vehicle is off, you can also dim the screen to conserve more power.

2) There is GPS tracking in it, so you can track the location of the plate if it's stolen. Though that depends on the battery still having charge and not being disconnected.

3) I think most new cars come with GPS tracking already for a cheaper cost than this. We have it with ConnectedDrive, though I don't know the cost of it once it expires.

3) I would assume these are serialized, so a thief couldn't steal your plate and activate it for their own use.

4) At time of the video (April 2018) it was $700 for the plate, then $6-8/mo for the subscription.

5) If their initial price was $700 for the plate, their current business model of "plate is free and $13-17/mo subscription" doesn't seem like it makes enough money to stay in business. I wonder what would happen if they go out of business. Or, even worse, if the DMV makes this a requirement and purchases their business. Because then the DMV will be able to track your car. I ain't about that big brother life.

6) Cost of replacement if damaged or stolen.

7) I don't know how California works, but this thing certainly doesn't make it easier to renew your registration in Pennsylvania. Once a year, I get a letter in the mail saying it's time to renew my registration. I go to pa.dmv.gov and renew it online, then print out my new registration card. Last year it was $36, this year rose to $38 to renew. When you initially register your car, the license plate is included for free. Personalized and special edition license plates are an additional charge depending on what you want.

8) If every state accepts this, it would make it difficult to distinguish what state a vehicle is from and the difference in special license plates, since all license plates would look the same. Think of not being able to recognize an unmarked police car because it's plate looks the same as a civilian plate.
I think my registration is above $500 at this point per year in California.

I've come a long way from drinking lionshead cause it's cheap.

$38 to renew your registration, sounds like heaven. My M2C is $750 a year. Western Washington FTL.

Although the install looks easy, I went with their installer. It comes with no instructions, I worry that there might be some configuration required, and I have no free time in the next few weeks. Install is Tuesday. More pics then.

Got the plate. I’ll post better pics later. I love it. It really adds that last touch that makes the rear look super clean, with only black and white. Updates transfer over the cel network, so I can change the look from my phone, publish it, and go to the car to find it’s already updated.

Why hide the plate? There's no public info you can get. Curious to see how it actually looks on the M2

OK, but I still prefer to hide the plate. I edited the pic a bit.

Does it have the ad feature? I recall in the video I was watching that it puts your license plate in picture-in-picture mode and plays full screen ads while you're driving. Does it do that or was that removed from the production version?

Ads? No man. I don’t want any ads on my plate. It only shows the plate# and a message that you can select.

A dummy plate # and my poor photoshop skills, cutting and pasting the #’s on the plate. Others were complaining about my early efforts to mask the plate, so this seemed the best option.

Well, I just cut and pasted numbers from the actual plate, so that’s what it looks like, other than the letter spacing may not be just right. If it’s any consolation, I copied the last two numbers (‘10’) on the plate #, so the last two numbers are unedited.

Yea, in the video they talk about running ads on the plate as well as amber alerts. There are images on google of it flashing a big "VIOLATION" word too, when you don't renew your registration.

Rplate Issues

Anyone had issues with the bluetooth not pairing and on the plate it says detached?
I contacted their support and they are super slow in replying.
BMW dealership installed the plate when I purchased the car this past weekend. I wonder if they installed it wrong.

we have some ugly plates here in NY but the black cali plate is nice. I am glad you love your digital plate and do you my friend but imo I actually think the black cali plate looks nicer than this plate, this looks kinda bulky. 1st gen and all of course. I can see the future is honky where they can just display SPEEDING on the plate as you are going 10mph over the limit.

As far as ads LOL, I can see them getting rid of the monthy if you can display a dunkin donuts ad.

Again, seriously I am glad you like it but this thing sucks.

I looked at a custom plate and was like $75 a year, I was like nope.

The dealership I purchased my car from made me buy one. They made some sort of deal with the manufacture. Every car they sold had to have one when driving off the lot. The dealer did end up providing other discounts that offset the cost of the plate, so in the end I was happy. It came with a one year free subscription so I'll keep it until then, after that it's coming off. It is kind of fun switching the colors and the bottom message when ever I want.
