how to turn headlights off while engine on?

Hello,

Is there a way to turn off the M2 headlights while the engine is running?

I was parking with the headlights pointing towards the tennis courts, waiting to pick up a few kids. I tried all the light switch position but none of them would turn off the headlights, while the engine is running (need AC on to keep cool).

Thanks,

Low tech senior citizen.

What you are seeing is the daylight running lights. You can turn them off via idrive menu.

Not sure why you would want to turn them off. It is a nice safety feature.

Because the M2 bright lights bothered the tennis players. They asked me to turn off the lights but I didn't how to do it other than turning off the engine. Thanks for the info. I will go test it out now....

I'm assuming this was at night time. the DRL rings during the night are very bright so I can see why that would be distracting.

In iDrive go to vehicle settings and you can turn it off in Exterior Lighting options

In my wife's car with DRLs enabled, it must use the light sensor because at night, if I turn off my headlights while the engine is running, the DRLs do not light up -- unlike the M2.

I also wait to pick up my kids and leave the engine running (for heat) and I want to extinguish all lights. Kind of a pain to turn DRLs on/off at night -- which will no doubt lead to leaving them off by accident.

[Which reminds me of the Residual Heating (REST) Function which I miss on the M2. I had it on my previous BMW and used it all the time in the winter. Shut the car off and if it's warmed up, push REST it ran the heater/blower].

Hmm. I wonder if the "ventilate now" option in the BMW Connected app would blow hot air once the car is off. I'm taking a note to try it tomorrow, cause I'll be sitting in my car waiting at the laundromat then.

I just tried this, it doesn't work as I hoped. Seems to just blow in the cold outside air, and you can't control the fan speed anyway.

Reading about it on other models, I guess some E9x were able to code the sync button to work as REST, but not all models had the extra electric pump to circulate coolant into the heater (which I assume is definitely gone now).

Sorry to the OP for the thread jack.

Sorry, but I have to point out how creepy as fuck the OP sounds in this. Lol

I'm sure that wasn't the intention, but thought it was funny.
