I respected your review but also kept in mind you have to take it with a grain of salt because ownership bias always rears it's ugly head.

I could hypothetically outrun the cops in a Alpine white 230i loaner car, so I can't see how the 240i with B58 can drastically be that different in performance with the M2C, for regular street driving, unless maybe if you're hanging ten on the apex.
Understandable, however driven these cars literally back to back, the difference is very noticeable.
If you get the chance, drive a M2C, one that's broken in, back to back with a stock m240, you'll see what i mean.
I mean, I know my 1987 Volvo 240GL wasn't a fast or hell, even a quick car by any stretch of the imagination, i did however end up getting away from the cops when i was 16 in it lol.

I believe you, the M2C is obviously more skewed towards hard-core driving than the M240i.

The M240i does have strait line acceleration but its oil delivery system is not designed for high G maneuvers.

Where as the M2C has a high pressure pump, a oil pan with baffles and covers to to restrict oil movement during heavy longitude and latitude acceleration. At the track, the M240i motor would probably starve for oil, regardless of the comparable strait line speed.

The M2C can house much larger wheels and has a trick electronic limited slip differential that's just magical at putting down rear wheel traction, at the right lock up. The M240i just has an offering of a standard aftersale M Performance LSD with a 40% lock up.

The advantages of the M2C are compelling if that's your needs but to the average consumer who just wants a sporty, comfortable BMW coupe, without the fanfare, it's still a decent offering.

Based on my friend's M4, I could tell the M2C is a little devil and the M240i has a more civilized nature but they both can achieve the same goal, depending on one's needs.

I would really like to see how some of you guys get the opportunity to really open up a car as brunt as the M2C, on the streets and still retain your driving privileges.

My license is already on life-support because I'm addicted to the rush I get when the pedal is touching the floor, the M2C would probably send me directly to jail.

no hate on the 240i because i think it’s a solid car and i’d be thrilled to drive one but i can’t get over the looks or handling. To me the 240i is massively uglier and drives like a boat

Looks wise, the two don't compare. The rear fender flares are beautiful on the M2

I would say if you have M240 then you always think about M2, and if you got M2 you won't think about M240.

Couldn't have said it better. Welcome!

The hips on the M2 are amazing, truly a beautiful car. It's aggressive, without being over the top or in your face. That's one of the reasons I love it. Normal people don't know what it is, but 'enthusiasts' do, and for the most part, they respect it. I didn't want anything that would draw tons of attention to me. The M2 is perfect.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but as a current M2C owner who traded in a 2017 M240i I thought I should weigh in.

When I first purchased the M240i, I did not see the value for the buck in the then current M2. But things changed with the M2C. Not only on paper, but the seat of my back in a test drive told me the M2C was a better performance sports car. "Nuff said!

The M2C feels very different. 1 minute in the car and you can tell. The looks are also a huge factor. The base 2 series never did it for me. Performance wise it’s a great car. In many situations AWD is an advantage.

It's an advantage if you don't look for fun.

For many its not about a 240 versus M2. I would not buy a 240 (or a 2 series)....its not a car for me as it serves no purpose. I wanted the M2 as a fun sports car, and not necessarily as a daily driver.

The answer is Yes

and now having taken delivery of a 2020 M2 comp, I can definitely answer yes to my own question.

The M2C brings another level of engagement and enjoyment and it's definitely worth it.

The M experience can be felt in so many ways with the car and it's those things that add up to make it just that much more of a special experience.

it's muscular looks captivate, the interior draws you in more, the S55 has much more character than the syntheticish b58 (and I am not talking sound because the b58 does probably sound a bit better overall), it's the way the s55 revs and the engine (not exhaust) sounds and feelings that come with it, the turn in is sharper and the car just feels so much more focused in the way it handles.

For those of us who have a real passion for cars, the m2c feeds that passion in a way the m240i simply can't.

I look forward to every next drive with the M2C, the last time that happened was with my first 981 Cayman S. And it's still break in period!

All the positive reviews of the car are ringing true for me. and it's funny because a test drive wasn't enough to come to that realization (i was meh after 2 test drives)

so for anyone on the fence, if you really love cars, make the move, it is totally worth it. Do it

Congrats baege!!! There is something about an M car that brings all the sights, feels and sounds together to give an elevated driving experience. They are not the fastest cars out there, but they sure are most fun! I know many like to compare the Ms to the non-M models, but there is daylight between them.

And yeah, a test drive does nothing unless you go nuts. When I drove my car before delivery, I was underwhelmed and worried for a moment if I made the right decision. Then I reminded myself that I was with the dealer, in a new car I didnt want to mess up, driving on busy local roads.

Even after 3 months on ownership, I remain excited about the M2C and driving it. I was up at 6AM today and went for a drive and gassed her up before the sun even came up.

So, are those the wheels the car came with? Is that standard or an option in Canada?

The M2C is a full M car. M240 is not. Any M car is going to give hyper type experience over an M-sport package. MY20 M2C feels crazy fast, Makes my hands shake and I'm still only at 450 miles. Because of the breaking period. I'm still in full low energy mode-

Yes it's almost $70K depending your spec- yes your maintenance and everything will be more expensive!

Buts is what's worth for you! Don't go broke because you want to be cool! Realistically I would not purchase any M car unless I'm making well over six figures.

There are a lot of fun cheaper cars out there!

Good Luck!

I absolutely hated the M240 when I had it.

The only cool part was kick down on the highway coming from a 6mt.

Other than that NUMB's the word. And honestly felt unsafe to hoon.

It was a loaner and had some weak rubber on it so there's that. But damn I was blown away how much better my car is.

I was looking forward to driving it because of all the hype, but I could care less now.

Get the m2c if you haven't already.

Edit: Congrats

Thank you, nice to know the love for the car is sustainable!

The 437m wheels are actually the reason why I went new vs pre-owned. You can spec the 437m's in Canada at no additional cost and for me they just fit the car so well, particularly in BSM. It would have been near impossible to find bsm with those wheels specc'd in manual in the pre-owned market.
