Is an M2C worth the move from an M240i ?

so before I bought my m240i I compared it with an 18 m2.
I liked the b58 over n55 and better ride and awd so went the m240i
anyone reach a similar conclusion but then made the move to an m2c because that was worth it ?

Matters what you are looking for. The M2C is much faster and handles much better. Most of the difference is felt on the track. In city driving it probably doesn’t matter which car you have. Try some twisties and the M2C will shine.

So it all depends on what kind of driving you expect to do.

I traded an M235i for an M2. It was a great decision.

Worth a move from an M2, M3, M4 imo which are several moves above the M240i.

I did exactly this. Didn’t want the N55 so bought the B58 (in an M140i). Never lusted after or was remotely interested in the M2 until the comp was announced. As soon as it was announced, I placed a deposit for the Comp, and sold my M140i and Z4M to get it. I’ve been delighted, and for me, it trumps both both together in every way.

Better car? Yes, on paper and IMO
Worth it? Is a very subjective question

Honestly, you lost me at awd.. That's not going to change with the M2C. Maybe try the RS3 :

If you didn't like the M2 more than the M240i, then I would not consider the M2C.

It is basically the same car with a different engine and software.

I don't want to get into the m2 vs m2c debate haha, but it depends why you preferred your m240i over the m2 originally.

I've come from a m135i to a m2c and it's a completely different ball game. Am loving the m2c so much. Part of that is being back in a 6MT again for me, but it's in a different league handling wise etc. It also feels a lot more special / more of an event to drive.

So it'd be a vote for the m2c from me!

cheers
this is the kind of experience I was interested in

I love the look of the m2
but back to back test drives between the n55 m2 and the m240i made me want the m240i
sounds like a test drive of an m2c might leave me feeling different

I understand the AWD and better ride considerations in your choice of the M240i over the OG M2.

What did you like about the B58 engine over the N55?

less lag, felt like it revved freer, felt torquier at low rpms, smoother more eager

I think that could be your feeling from a ZF vs a DCT if you tested autos. Did you try them both in Sport mode? If so, I would think you would have come to a completely different conclusion as my complaints about the M240 in comparison to the M2 were the exact same as your complaints about the M2 in comparison to the M240.

Follow you heart, needs and wallet; they're both great vehicles that serves different purposes and demographics. A win either way.
I feel ya....I get ownership bias

but maybe some people chose the m240i over the m2 Og but then made the move to m2c because the m2c offered something the og m2 didnt

one poster has already relayed this experience...i am interested in hearing about those kinds of experiences

yup both in sport
the n55 is more laggy than the b58...in my experience

I test drove an m235i back in the day and found it too laggy for me
I didnt have that same issue with the b58

So interesting how people have different experiences with these cars. You gotta do what makes the most sense for you.

I moved from an M235i to an M2C. I don't regret it in the slightest. I weighed in on another thread, but my thoughts:

1. The M2C is a lot louder than the M235i. There's a lot less insulation on the M2C.

2. The DCT is hella fast on shifts. I like it a lot. That said, it's rougher around the edges than the ZF8 in my M235i. There's bumps, thuds, and other mechanical feedback from the DCT you don't get in the M235i.

3. The M2C, those hips, daaamn. The M235i doesn't have anything on that.

4. I like the M2C seats better.

5. Gas mileage, the M2C is noticeably worse on gas mileage. But, i didn't buy it for gas mileage.

6. Stiffness. God damn, the M2C is stiff. The M235i in comfort mode is better for day to day driving. That said, the M2C is ready for hooliganism at any time, any place. With the M235i I had to worry about being in the correct mode.

I traded to M2C 6MT from a 2017 M240i xDrive. I also preferred the M240i over the standard M2.

I put 70,000km on the M240ix in 20 months. Amazing car. xDrive was phenomenal in the snow. Engine note in it is awesome too (with M Performance exhaust @ $1400 CAD installed rather than any exhaust for the M2C @ $4000+!! [wtf]).
I did find the 240 to be a bit too quiet from the interior. I'm one of the guys who likes having the option of 'turning on' the engine note in the M2C... even if it's being pumped into the cabin. This is not to say that the M2C is loud... it's just as quiet as a 240i in efficient mode.

I regret not keeping the 240ix as my winter car but I do not regret the upgrade to the M2C.

If you had the RWD 240 with 6MT, I would say DEFINITELY go to M2C if you want to have more fun. The xDrive & ZF8 make it a totally different car (better IMO: more capable/comfortable/faster).

Notes:
- I'm only using 1L/100km extra in the M2C over the 240.
- I think the M240i seats are more comfortable but M2C seats have just slightly more lateral support and they certainly look more special.
- M240ix a lot less bumpy on these damn GTA roads.
- M240ix will take the M2C off the line, especially in the wet or in the snow.
- Lately I regret not getting the DSG because I'd be shifting through powerslides.
- M2C's MDM = training wheels to learn how to drive well. It's like a video game. Perfect safety net.
- M240ix with DSC OFF in the snow = vitamin D(SC) during the winter: it made the winter bearable.

Sorry if this makes your decision more difficult.

Not really, it's not that serious..

You guys are that deep in a vat of M KoolAid you can't see anything beyond that; they're both practically the same DNA with different motors.

We're not talking about a 240i vs GT4, which is has a 0-60 under 3 seconds and is tuned to sound like a guitar. The M2C is a similar flavor of vehicle as the 240 of which both serves difference demographics and purposes.

Which is why I suspect BMW sells both simultaneously.

Either vehicles I would be happy with without any regrets..

Sound plays an important part in how you perceive a vehicle. So a vehicle that's loud and boisterous appears faster. Doesn't mean it's actual a fact that it is.

That's why the original M2 and 235i had the same motor and speed but the M2 'sounded' more emotional and faster.

The 240i was built for folks that wants a small, fast, well-rounded BMW without all the fanfare of a M car. It's nice to have options, that's all..

Check out the video below, BMW Active Sound has an honorable mention:
