Taxes can vary, but the money guy at the dealership will be able to tell you what percent you're going to pay. Some states have no tax, some have a flat auto tax, and others tax you by your physical address. As an example, Colorado sales tax is based on your address-- which determines the county tax, local tax, and all of the fun associated ones (RTD, mill levy's, etc.). As far as the dealership fees, just ask them upfront. I've seen everywhere from no fees at all (Yay!) to almost $1000 in "Dealer doc/prep" fees. These can be tricky, as the dealer can hide a lot of things in seemingly innocuous fees. Also, be sure to determine where the delivery fee is-- It should be in the price of the vehicle, but I've seen it listed as a separate (surprise!) line item. So, to figure "OTD", you need to know the following: 1. Actual purchase price of the vehicle, including delivery charge. 2. State/county/local taxes. 3. Any additional dealer fees. 4. Registration/title/license fees. 5. Cost of any add-on's to the vehicle (floor mats, PPF, ceramic coating, etc.) Add them all up, and that's the *real* price of the car. One other thing to think of that people tend to forget. The dealer will very happily throw all sorts of add-on's into the price of the car; floor mats, car covers, trim pieces, exhaust, paint protection, whatever. Just remember, that all of that goes into the price of the loan-- which, over the course of 3-5 years can make for VERY expensive floor mats. You're usually better off buying that sort of stuff on your own. As an example, I always get PPF on my cars, and have been going to the same guys for about 20 years. When we bought my wife's RDX, the dealer wanted us to get the PPF through him. Funnily enough, they used the exact same guys I use, but at about a 50% markup. Dealing directly with the PPF guys saved me a lot of money-- both in cost of the job and not paying for it through the length of the loan. Clear as mud? R. Here's an example of a dealer breakdown. You get this BEFORE you sign on the dotted line! |

Yep, that's what I did. Inquired about the car, got a salesman on the phone (because I was looking at a car out of state), and began talking. After showing him I was serious about buying, I asked what the OTD price on the car would be as it sits. They told me $64,000 something, and I started negotiating. Asking what incentives I would qualify for, and then brought up how long the car had been on the lot etc. I asked for $60,000, and they pretty much delivered. I paid a small refundable deposit, flew up to MD, signed the papers, and left. Easy peasy.

@asaily Here's your answer. Group buy at 10% off MSRP new. I would jump on this as you get a new car with the specs you want for roughly the same price as used.

1) Selling price of the car - negotiate down from MSRP (including Destination charge) 2) Sales Tax - Defined by your state, the dealer cant cheat here 3) Dealer processing fees - Not sure what yours are but they vary by state. Make sure you know this in advance 4) Registration/tags fee - This is also pretty much set by state. So when I negotiate for a car I say that I will offer $X+Sales tax+dealer fees+registration fees, fully knowing what each of these is |

The car is too new now to depreciate that badly; and IMO, the M2C is not going to depreciate as badly as a new AMG or M3/4. |

Used prices for M2s are not good at all. You can get a new M2C for $56-60k depending on options, and if you try hard enough. There is no reason to buy a slightly used one, especially after someone is willing to dump it after abusing it for a year (maybe)

I think I got lucky with mine. Got it for $56,390 before taxes and fees. 2020 M2 Comp 6m/t with m-performance front splitter, mirrors, spoiler and diffuser. Car had 3,345 miles on it and previous owner ppf'd the full hood, front bumper, mirrors, front lip, spoiler, and window trim. Total price out the door was $61,000 with wheel and tire protection (road hazard warranty, which was approx. $1,900) and prepaid maintenance for 50,000 miles. Original MSRP was $65,000.

Maybe its just me but when I'm a couple of grand away from a brand new, undriven car, I just go for the new one. I paid $59k + tax + tags for my new M2C which was stickered at $65k+. But I would love some of the goodies on your car |

Very nice! I purchased the floating center caps for $78 and the oem M projectors for $70. Will probably pass on the side vents in cf because my car is black, but will most likely add the side winglets to complete the package. Looks like we both got great cars!
