M2C Speedo/Tach Backlights
Curious why BMW made most of the dash lights red (thermostat, presets, etc.) as it traditional for them but the instrument cluster is white? Wish that could be easily changed to red.

Maybe because it’s more legible during daytime?
Orange/red is supposed to reduce fatigue during night time, so... Just a wild guess. |

They're more orange than red in my opinion.
That aside, the pre-lci (2016-2017 M2) had a different style cluster with matching lights: The change to white was probably for 2 reasons. First, since the e9x m3, they've been giving M cars white tachs instead of orange as just a way to make them look cooler and look a little more unique as compared to the non-M's. And second, there was an issue with the old M2 tach: poor day time visibility in certain lighting conditions, which is probably a major factor in why they changed the design: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1258632&page=2 It was very annoying and as a result, I ended up changing mine from the old style to the new one: I like it much better and I don't mind the mismatched lighting at all. |

The white is 100% easier to see. The whole LCI cluster change was a move in the right direction for sure, but I think with all the gadgetry going on in today's clusters they should have given us the option to change it to match the red if we so desired.

Take it from me in the UK on some cloudy days I could barely see what my guages were displaying.
A ton of money to retrofit but worth it Last edited by 3t3p; 12-26-2019 at 05:02 PM.. |
