So one thing I have noticed with using Waze over CarPlay the last few days is my phone gets warmer than usual almost like the phone is working hard utilizing a lot of resources and in turn my battery drains a lot faster. I am using an iPhone XS Max. Anyone else getting the same issue? Also the black bar at the top Waze is annoying since it takes away from the full screen unless you are actively navigating to a destination. In Google Maps that black bar goes away after a few seconds of your not searching.

I just checked mine tonight and voice alerts are coming through. But I do remember that I had to set that up in Waze before CarPlay support existed, so check your settings there.

Is it different than when you used Waze without CarPlay? All of the apps that consume GPS continually - and esp if they also keep the screen active - tend to heat the phone up. I didn't notice anything unusual on my iPhone X tonight when using it with CarPlay and Waze.

Thanks - I checked everything and can not figure out how to get the voice alerts. Strange, as they always worked before I used it with Carplay. Now that is in Carplay it seems like there are no other sound option to select to make it work.

Hmm... maybe check the volume just to be sure? Can't think of anything else off the top of my head. It's absolutely working for me - I just used it again this morning.

Does Waze give you voice alerts in Carplay when not using it for Navigation? Ie... you have it up in Carplay, but are using it just for voice alerts?

well i upgraded to iO12 yesterday and got Waze working on Carplay.

it's a big disappointment so far. very buggy/quirky in terms of behavior. i'll try and mess around with it again tonight. seemed like pretty much anything would cause the display to switch off Waze (radio, incoming call, text, changing drive mode, etc.).

Waze's behavior is much better on my wife's Silverado so hopefully there are some settings at work with the M2 that can be configured.

I like how you can have Waze up as well as listen to Satellite radio but for music I prefer to use my ipod classic connected via USB rather than my phone for music but it appears there's no way to have CarPlay on your screen when using USB.

For those of you wondering. I just collected my car and did the ebay CarPlay activation trick.


It worked! Unlimited car play forever for 80 bucks... You copy some files to a USB and it does this shady business and you reboot and boom. There is no way whoever is selling this isn't a bmw employee or someone with technical knowledge of the car.

Do what I do. I have an iPod touch that I just use in my car for my music. This will now also become my dedicated device for CarPlay.

I wanted to do that with an old iPhone but the issue is now I have like 3 devices in my car (Android phone, Android tablet for gauges so it gets really messy.

I'll think about it but my m2 isn't car play ready as I didn't opt for it so it depends on how much extra it'll cost to add it.

If you don't have Carplay as a factory option, (and even if you do) either way you have to pay for it. It then expires after 3 years.

This just enables carplay even if you didnt buy it from the factory (but does so for life) and for around 80 dollars instead of several hundred for 3 years.

It all works for me when sending to the car from Google Maps on a PC or through the Android BMW Connected app. But what is missing is ROUTE PLANNING. I don't mean what BMW offers in the USA and UK, but a real route planner where as one can do on Google Maps set the starting location and the end location, and simply add 'waypoints' and by moving them up and down the tree, plan the route.

NO, my Beemer does NOT have Apple Carplay or Android Auto. A chap with the alias TokenMaster released a tool called BMW Lead the Way! on Bimmerfest, but has now cobbled it. The idea is brilliant as one plans the route on the PC, exports it to a USB stick where it was in two formats: one for NBT iDrives and another for CIC. He could make a fortune if he actually released it on the Android Play Store and Apple iTunes.

In the meantime, we pay through the nose for half-hearted efforts by BMW.

You can use the BMW Routes web app to do that.

Not in Australia I am afraid -- only parts of Europe and the UK, and not even the USA. Moreover, the Download Manager for updating maps is on the fritz much of the time.

Neither Waze maps working on my 2018 M2. I do like the update now allowing to use the maps and listening to YouTube on the background.

I deleted and reinstalled the Waze and Google Maps apps, and restarted the phone. No luck. Is there a simple fix?
