I have done one HPDE track day per year since 2007 with 3 different cars: 2005 Mustang GT, 2015 BMW M235i, and a 2018 Camaro 2SS 1LE. With only 1 track day per year, none of my cars showed any visible signs whatsoever of being "beat up" as some suggested in this thread. Unless you count tire wear. I run in the Intermediate run group, not setting any records, but just having fun while learning more about my car. It's enough to satisfy my need for speed. As others have said, running on track, even as a Novice or Intermediate, is totally different than driving on public roads. It's sustained high speed driving for 20-30 minutes at whatever your maximum comfort level is. And then repeat 3 or 4 more times.

Some people believe you need to run 24h of Nurburgring competing with GT3s. I ran an entire season 10 events on Autocross and some HPDE events and only expense I have to deal with is changing the tires. My initial post was meant to spark to conversation around the subject - which it did. Of course you can do whatever you want with your money and with your car - but I think you are missing out if you just drive it to cars and coffee . |

This is the only reason to buy an M2/M2C/M2CS. Anyone who doesn't do this bought the wrong car!

Totally agree! I bought mine mainly because we like to autox. Otherwise I would have gone with an M240xi. Maybe. My wife and I are co-driving it. We are running 200tw tires and alignment for now and the car is an absolute blast. M2's are dominating AS, BS and ladies classes in our area BMW Club autox series. We also have an E36 M3 for autox and track work.

I stated my opinion and was curious about others. A lot of people chimed in and good points were brought up from both sides. I read and adapted my thinking throughout - if you would of read the threat. Nobody is telling you what to buy and do so stop being a snowflake. |

Looks like the poll is approaching 50/50, I was definitely expecting a lower % but I'm glad people are tracking (at least once) their M2 they are a blast!

I wanted to get the RT660s but I couldnt find any inventory where I live, then my 2nd choice which were the GY super car 3s where also out, so then decided to get the pricey Cup 2s (240 tw). I am using the cup 2s on my dedicated track wheels but so far I've liked them. They were probably too much tire for me in the beginning as on my first track day I was only maybe 0.2 seconds faster on them vs the stock MPSS. Fast forward to the 4th track day with them, and am now about 4 seconds faster per lap and more comfortable with them. I found them to provide better steering feel and rotation both at entry in corners and on transitions. They do get quite edgy and a bit scary for my liking when very hot.

I don't baby it or dog it, yes hand washed and has a no eating inside rule except the occasional everything bagel with coffee @ drive through…
Honestly, this car is more than I can handle, like most buyers (I think) we wanted a car with just a little more power than needed and something we wouldn't need to check on when it's parked on the street when we get dinner off Mass Ave perfect balance, long term keeper I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving a $100k car on the street for the night or have a Ferris Bueller valet take it @ dinner but with my m2 it's ok 👌 |
