Haha I appreciate it! Let me try it myself, if I can't get it done I'll message you later on the summer and if you could do it for me that would be fantastic!

I'll likely be using protool for it.

Now regarding the dimmer, there are a ton of settings available for it.

Do you have the LCI flat bezel cluster or the pre-LCI with the clear curved housing?

I have the pre LCI grey backing one.

Ok poor wording on my part, I was referring to H pattern shifters that have been updated to show current gear & I've even see some with shift lights. These are obviously competition vehicles but I still say the gear indicator can have a valid use, clearly not for commute or the average spirited driving though. Guess it just depends on usage.

We of the DCT get current gear and a suggestion for the the gear that your grandma would select. It’s a source of amusement.

Now, I absolutely hate when people take info like this and then charge for remote coding and hold it like a secret golden egg for themselves. Especially when not giving credit.

So here are the changes that I made to make it happen.

Code:
Instrument Cluster In Esys, Bimmerlink expert mode, protool, etc.
3003 FZG_Ausstatung

SPA_ENABLE change to nicht_aktiv 00 (default aktiv 01)
SPA_IST_GANG_ENABLE change to aktiv 01 (default nicht_aktiv 00)
Note, it will no longer give you suggested gear, as far as I can see.
FWIW when I had both of them enabled, the display had incompatibilities and it would not display correctly, as well as the settings in iDrive would not respond anymore. Do not leave both on.

I appreciate giving credit if you paste this elsewhere.

Please let me know if it worked for you.

I can do it remotely if needed via ENET cable for those that have neither.
Awesome! Will definitely try this out.

One other question; in my iDrive settings, I have the gear shift indicator turned off since I found it more annoying than useful. Does this setting need to be turned off or on, or does it not matter all together?

It will need to be turned on to be able to see it; but please try it both ways and let me know!

I gave it a shot on my OG 2018 M2 which has the updated instrument cluster. But it doesn’t show the gear, only the mpg indicator. Bummer. Maybe it’s an M2C only mod.

What is the little check box like in the idrive like for the gear display?

I can check it or uncheck it as normal, but it has no effect on the instrument cluster.

So you did one enable and one disabled?

Did you use esys or other tools?
I can take a look at any other settings that you have that may be interfering then.

Yes, I tried both "Additional indicators" and "Shift point indicator" enabled, as well as each one enabled and the other disabled. So 3 possible combinations. I only ever see the MPG meter. The small rectangle which shows the shift point indicator does not show up ever.

I used bimmercode in expert mode with an ethernet cable. I no longer have an esys working setup unfortunately.

Oh, so you've never had it working? That's not right.

PM me and we can look at the entire cluster coding.

Sorry if that was unclear. The shift point indicators works fine until I make the two coding adjustments you shared. Then that shift point indicator rectangle does not show up regardless of what settings I choose in iDrive (additional indicators on/off, shift point indicator on/off).

When I revert the 2 coding changes, everything works as expected and the shift point indicator rectangle shows up, but of course not displaying current gear.

I'll PM you regardless!

So we left off at OG M2 settings which don't work the same as on M2C. This can be either due to flash update requirement for the instrument cluster or a 3rd and yet-to-be-discovered settings is needed for OG M2.

We'll be finding out, I have a couple approaches for it.

In the meantime if anyone wants to try it on S55, I can help. I may have to post this in the M2C section as well. (Honestly the 2 M2 sections should be combined to one and the N55 and S55 sections should be the one for engine differences.)

I can confirm that this does not work on my LCI N55. Even with my M Variante setting enabled, it just gets rid of the shift point indicator together - maybe we need to play around some more with the gang settings and see what else is different between M2 and M2C… I believe my car is one one of the later iStep versions

Let me know if you have an available Windows laptop and enet cable and we can try a few things. I need to see the exact firmware version of the cluster and try a few settings.

Coded mine today for my M2C and it works flawlessly; thanks for figuring this one out!

Couple notes to add:
- Coded it exactly as mentioned
- Did not turn on the "shift point indicator" in the iDrive settings; didn't want to risk touching it
- M sport displays for the steering and drivetrain still function normally for those that would rather have that display than the consumption meter
