With windows up, you can hear acceleration and deceleration popping. There is no noise on steady throttle.

ASD, coding, exhaust changes on M2C

Hi All,

While I am waiting for my M2C to be delivered I have a few questions :
-will the ASD harness from the regular M2 work on the M2C ?
-can I still code the M2C with bimmercode or any other app ?
-may be strange, but I do not like the rattles and cracks of the exhaust in sport mode, is this something that can be removed or decoded ?
-I suppose aftermarket exhausts need to be specific to the M2C because of OPF ? so far I have not seen any vendor proposing an exhaust for the M2C

Thanks !

No, not without an ECU tune
Yes, aftermarket exhaust will ONLY be slip-on for OPF markets. I hope they offer full cat-back systems for all other markets. All vendors have not seen the car yet and its changes. Exhausts will land by the end of the year or early next year. Be prepared for a lot of manufacturers not to offer anything, nothing that is legal or only a backbox.

Thanks !!! So with an ECU I can get rid of the rattles. I guess I will have to live for some months with the stock exhaust and see what options (if any) will be proposed.

When you install, keep in mind that you no longer need to take the adapter apart as shown in the original instructions. The adapter is now plug compatible.

In addition, there are two potential places to install the bypass. One is on the horizontally mounted box and the other is on the vertically mounted box that is closer to the back of the car.

The proper place to install the adapter is on the vertically mounted box.

Also, remember its not necessary to remove rear weather stripping in order to remove the plastic panel at the rear of the trunk. Many have found getting that weather stripping back in place when the job is done problematic.

This is the first mod I've done to my car. After a few days of enduring ASD, i had to order the Technic PnP bypass harness. Install was straightforward thanks to the useful how to guides floating around. Such an improvement not having it, the cabin is a much nicer place to be now.

I installed the bypass cable [FIRST PICTURE] on my 2018 M2 DCT today and... well... at driveway speeds and slight revving I'm not sure I hear much of a difference. If anything, the exhaust sounds "boomier" and more like drone!

Perhaps when I get on the road tomorrow AM I'll hear it.

Some notes:

Correct. The new cable has a black end that plugs directly into the vertical box with the other end receiving the "old" gray plug piece. In concept, you are installing this harness in line between the old wiring and the box.

For my 2018, enough of the trunk liner was under the panel that I did have to remove the entire panel. Some finger abuse from rolling the rubber seal off/on the top of the panel, but easy enough.

Finally, my 2018 has no black lattice framework to support the cardboard/felt trunk liner as shown in most of the install guides. Just FYI. [PICTURE 2]

I think you might have misread. I never said you dont have to remove the panel.. you do.. .What I said was you dont have to remove the weather stripping, which is what gives people fits in putting it back.

That thing sound sexy AF, I can't get enough of it. I had the car for few days now and I'm yet to turn on the stereo

I already have bimmercode for my other car so I will try to toggle ASD to figure out if I like it on or off.

I will report back for the other MPE owners

Most MPE owners, like myself, have turned off ASD.

I just tried it now. At some RPMs it sounds better - quieter when cruising.
At the higher RPMs I kinda miss the loud tone. I just took it to the redline and the sound was a bit disappointing, I expected the engine to get louder and louder.

Just did the bypass. I swear my bass is tighter now on the HK system. The biggest difference for me is low speeds where the car isn't obnoxiously loud for no reason.

So I was looking around in Bimmercode the other day and found what looked like wattage output values for the stock amp. It got me wondering, even though we code ASD off, is there still wattage that is being designated for ASD?

In other words, when you shut off the ASD, is the system smart enough to reallocate that power to the rest of the speakers? I'm thinking theres a possibility from reading a bunch of threads that there may be a certain amount of power from the stock amp that is still unable to be utilized. Thoughts?

ASD is terrible in the LCI. Yes it was a bit subdued once disabled but I fitted a Fabspeed sportscat so the sound without ASD is amazing.

The N55 is widely known for being a great sounding engine. The M2C with S55 is a no go for me until I see someone who can make it sound half decent. I'm yet to see that across any S55 vehicle. For those, ASD might be a saving grace from the cabin.
