Question Very strange scratches by trunk corners.

I was cleaning the car the other day and noticed a very weird scratch, a touch bigger than a match head, where the corner of the trunk meets the C-pillar.

I couldn't imagine where it came from as it's a pretty protected area. Then I looked at the other corner and lo and behold.....there was a little (smaller) scratch there too

Anyone have ANY idea what could have done this. I've never carried anything in my trunk where it wouldn't close or anything like that.

Does anyone else have a similar couple of ugly spots in the same place? This really has be baffled.

Here's a couple of pics showing the locations and a close up of the worse one.

And yeah.......cleaning the garage is on my list...........

Have you opened your trunk lid to see if it's rubbing when open?

was your trunk ever loose? I think when it's fully opened the trunk lid and that pillar get close but not enough to touch (unless something is loose)

The closest the trunk comes to the scratches is when the trunk is fully closed. When opening, the trunk moves up and away. Heck, even if I try to push it in the direction of the scratches it doesn't even budge in that direction.

The trunk has never been loose nor messed with.

I'm thinking the plastic borders that when the car's is new.

Maybe it was done prepping the car for delivery.

Do you think it's new damage?

That's an interesting thought. Anyone have pics of what the back of the car looks like when it rolls off the truck, with all the shipping guards and whatnot in place?

I DO have a short vid on my iPad my sales guy took during delivery and while there are some spots, they move with the camera....just reflections of the spotlights in the little delivery room. I paused several places and can't see if my ugly spots are there.

They look like they've been there a while, but at this point I don't think they were there @ delivery.

M2 only comes with white wrap on the trunk lid in that area. No shipping guards. I have a pic of mine minutes after it was taken off the truck, just too lazy to resize and upload it.

Good enough for me. It did look ok in my delivery video, but It was kind of hard to see that part of the car and pause it just right. Never figured I’d have to CSI on it.
I’ll get some LBB touch up paint and get it as good as new, but I’m one of those idiots that wants to know where the hell it came from.

Yea, no, I understand. You definitely want to know what happened to prevent it from happening again.

Never washed by anyone but me. I squeege when drying (plastic one from dollar store...that and the dollar pizza cutter are the only things good there, certainly not the dollar pregnancy test they have at checkout).........Never been though a car wash. I do it by hand every time.

Still a mystery.

Given the adjacent positioning I would imagine maybe something that happened in freight. Only other thing I could think of is automatic car wash maybe if it had one of those overhead dryer things that float over the car. I avoid those types of washes.

Maybe there was debris of some sort trapped between the window and trunk lid which was loosened and shot out the sides from high pressure water hitting the back window when washing with a high pressure hose or touchless car wash?

I don’t think it was like that at delivery. It’s a little hard to see in my delivery video, but it looks ok. It’s never been through a car wash. What kind of monster do you guys think I am, lol. It’s likely been there a few months. I really wish I knew. It’s just such an odd spot.
