Introductions and a 2021 HS M2C
Good evening all! My name is Ken, I'm a long time lurker and first time poster from New England. I just joined the M2 club today. Well, the papers were signed and finalized Monday but I picked the car up earlier this afternoon, 2 days later.
This is my first M car (and first BMW) but I did my part in the ongoing effort to preserve manuals. I took home a 2021 M2C with the MT but unfortunately did not get an opportunity to pick up my camera on the way to the dealership. I'm sure you all know what a stock M2C looks like but I did snap one with my phone at signing while it was still in the showroom. A little bit of background if you care to follow, I actually did a lot of hemming and hawing for the past 24 months before pulling the trigger on this purchase as well as some fairly disparate cross-shopping (B8.5 S5/S4, F8X M3/M4, M240i). Mainly because I had a fully functioning daily (2004 Honda Accord V6 MT) that was adequate for my needs; it was cheap to operate, mod, and maintain, not to mention no car payments. However the want for a newer car finally overcame my more frugal inhibitions as the stars aligned when my local dealer had the M2C n stock with the specs I was looking for. Besides, the Honda would have outlived me if I let it so I figured "if not now, then when?" I admit it was a great move because the M2C is a lot of fun! I'm still about 1100 miles away from break-in service but the first 100 miles I covered today were very satisfying. I can't wait for break-in... On to the good stuff. Though I will be keeping the trusty Accord until it returns to the Earth as a pile of rust, the M2C will be my new daily. It's currently scheduled for full PPF, ceramic coat, and tint next week. Then probably some cosmetic parts in the near future as budget permits. I've also been reading up on the SSK, CDV delete, and UCP and will be prioritizing those after the first wave of modifications. I performed similar modifications to the Honda and it made the daily driving experience that much more enjoyable so I plan to do that with the BMW. I don't (currently) plan to go beyond exhaust, suspension, and wheels because I don't (currently) plan to track it. I also (currently) feel it has more than adequate amounts of power for my day-to-day use. I promise more pictures in the coming days and maybe a build thread in the future (more of a cataloging thread if anything). Looking forward to learning more from our little community here and seeing more members' cars as they progress as well, cheers! |

Thank you all. Took the car out again this evening and it gets more fun by the mile.
Strange issue though, I noticed that the turn signals actually work when I use them. Do I code that out or am I just using them improperly? 😄 I'll show myself out. |

Don't worry, the blinker fluid tank is really small. They won't work for very long.

Thank you again for the warm welcomes all!
I fell down a rabbit hole today and placed an order for a Vorsteiner carbon lip spoiler and MP carbon mirror caps. Had to stop myself before I ended up ordering a whole catalog of carbon. My hope is that the parts get here before the PPF installer starts their work. Also on order since Wednesday are black line reverse light and rear reflector overlays. Is anyone else experiencing delays with Goldenwrench supply for their black line overlays? I reached about an order placed 2 days ago that hasn't been updated or shipped out yet. Covid's been slowing everyone down so I wouldn't be surprised if their team is backlogged because of the pandemic. Pictures Sunday! |

Today I discovered our forum's "appreciate" button after posting from a computer.
Also, I've put 300 miles on the car since delivery, getting closer to break-in service... Some things I've noticed I as get more seat time in the car: - The exhaust burbles are actually fairly enjoyable. All the videos I've seen makes them out to be obnoxious, to the point where I was strongly considering coding or tuning them out. I may even keep the stock exhaust; it's that good (to me). - The suspension is quite nice for a sporty car. It absorbs road shock pretty well and still manages to feel planted without being crashy and stiff. I'm sure there's room for improvement but I'm coming from a lowered Honda with Koni shocks and H&R sport springs but it's a welcome change. I may also consider keeping the suspension stock for the time being. - The power. Unlikely to touch that (for now), 400+hp and 400+ lb-ft is more than sufficient for my needs. There are other things such as the huge, grabby brakes, overall communication and feel, etc. Standard M2 Comp things. Obviously coming from a 16 year old commuter Honda to a new BMW M will really get you to appreciate the engineering but, wow, this car really ticks all the right boxes for me! Dropped the car off at the detailer's earlier this afternoon but not before installing the M Performance carbon mirrors that were delivered today. No new pictures unfortunately...Generally I do most of my driving at night and low light shots are tough to get right without a proper camera. Which...honestly I'd rather drive the car than take pictures of it haha. I promise pictures after the detail and wrap Cheers! |

I'm satisfied with stock exhaust and power. Stock exhaust on my M2c sounds much better than my F80 M3 with same engine. I think BMW struck a decent balance with the suspension tuning. An adaptive suspension would have been ideal for me but I appreciate that others might want something more track focused. The brakes are definitely grabby around town, and are heavy, but certainly powerful. On the topic of weight, I also wish the wheels were lighter. Steering is probably biggest disappointment. Pretty satisfied with interior. I do wish the seat position was lower and also wish had HUD. Slick top FTW...but CF would have been cool Very good car overall and a really strong value. A keeper! |

I'm with you on the brakes an wheels. I weighed the benefits of the AP Racing brake kit and definitely will be considering it for a far-into-the-future mod but it's not as much of a priority currently. The stoppers are absolutely MASSIVE and, as my 100% daily driver, it's hard to give up the aesthetics of them for better weight savings and increased performance. If I tracked the car a couple of times a year I would jump on the kit.
As slick as the CS is, the carbon roof was the only bit that I truly wanted on the Comp. I'm very hesitant with the CF roof retrofit because I'm not comfortable with tearing up the body work and windshields of a brand new car...but I want to. |
