Wife DD'd our 6MT M2c for a couple months before getting her car. She's more careful with it than I am.

Others (that know how to drive MT) can drive it but I'm in the car with them..

I've let a few friends take it for a short spin. They aren't inexperienced, or careless. One of them did take it out on the highway for a moment and nailed the throttle at 65. Would have been an interesting ticket. Another of them was a bit afraid of it and kept putting it back in efficient mode.

My SO won't drive it. He's a bit intimidated by it. I'm not upset about that at all.

If they can drive stick then sure I'd let them but with specific instructions. Had a bad experience letting a buddy drive my last car where he just started red lining gears on a cold engine. Made him pull over right away and swap out.

Driving friends' new cars is amazing though if you're all enthusiasts. Had a buddy drop by with his new 992 recently and handed me the keys and told me to find the limits of her.

Oh well, maybe next time.
That happened to my old Benz (the only car I kept for 12 year since new, before it was completely totaled by an elderly couple t-boning me at an intersection).

MB recommended that I do a complete "restore" of the moonroof every 4 years (aka redo the seals and relube the rails) but I never got to it.

So after about 12 years the tilt function would literally make a "EERRRHGGH!" sound, and closing it using auto-close would make it does an "open-close-open-close-eh I'm tired so I'll be stuck now" routine.

At that point I'd have to hold the button down manually to close it completely.

Despite the issues I loved that car!

Generally, I wouldn't let others drive it other than family, but none have yet. A colleague at work was strongly interested in buying an M2C but there were none at the local dealer to test drive, so I let him drive mine in January with me in the car. I had about 2000 miles on it at the time. His SO, MT M2C should arrive in mid-March, so the drive was a "success".

Thechs regularly take these sporty cars for joy rides. Many of the techs are enthusiasts that don't own one but would love to have one. They love to "test" them on the open road. The last time I was in for service they ran my tank down to 5 miles 🤬.

Yeah, dealerships/service centers are getting worse and worse to take your car to. A dash cam these days is necessary, although even some techs are too stupid to notice it or will take them down and then abuse your car.

I know what you mean, I have strategy to discourage any of the service monkeys from unnecessarily driving my vehicle; I purposely leave my gas tank on beyond empty, like maybe 20 miles to shutoff, sometimes even less..

I know how the mind of a degenerate works; they're not going to spring for gas just to be able to drive my car, not even if it was something exotic.

So once they see that, they'll move on to the next victim, that left it with a full tank.. Suckers..

I like you guys use switch up tropes when it fits your point.

For instance; "Bro, it's sacrilegious to opt for a moonroof on an M2, this is an exotic sports cars and every gram of weight counts to its handling. Didn't you see that movie Ford vs BMW"

Now it's; "Meh, I left anyone drive my M2, it's not like it's anything special, it's just a cookie-cutter BMW"

Honestly, I'm not calling you out personally but it's humorous how perspectives change, depending on who and when you ask..
Haha. I guess that's why they're opinions, and everyone's got one.
The way I look at it is, it's a fun to drive car and I'd rather share the joy. It's a depreciating asset and the only way you can justify it is making sure you maximize the fun per dollar quotient lol. At the end of the day it's just a car and if it's too much of a liability to enjoy then it's not worth it. And we all have insurance too, right? 😉

Yeah that is something that I would be talking to the GM about or higher at that point. I've already talked to my guy about the delivery process and the 'road' testing can actually be done around their parking lot and we've agreed to that.

I’ve been a BMW high performance driving instructor for around 30 years so I’ve been very fortunate in that many ask me to drive their cars so they can better understand its potential. Also have a friend that writes for several car magazines and has allowed me some great opportunities to drive some fun things (like Ford GT 40, etc.).

That being said, I’ve allowed several people to take my cars on the track to get their input or to watch how they may approach corners differently etc. But these are all people that I trust and there is a somewhat unwritten rule that you NEVER take some else’s car to 10 10ths! Or they pay for the consequences!

This the automotive version of swinging. Some people are comfortable with it, some aren't.

Personally, I'm not into this.

Maybe those that have like minded friends could all put their keys in a bowl?

Oh no that's just asking for trouble. It's how you end up with an STI...a WRX that is.

I'm in agreement with this guy. I've let 2 of my friends borrow the car before.

One of whom taught me how to drive manual on his e46 m3 and the other one who details my car here and there.

I don't think it's a problem of thinking the car is in the same class as some super cars, but it goes with what was said about the car being meant to be driven. I agree with that, it's just some people I wouldn't trust with knowing how to drive it. It is possible to screw up the clutch (see Poochie's story above I think). But, if I know the person well and I'm in the car, then I don't think I'd have too much trouble...maybe. Haven't fully decided yet.

I mean honestly I was really anal for the first 4-5 months and slowly I kind of just got over it. I love the car but I love my friends too. I obviously only let people I know well drive it, but drive it they may.

That's a fair point and I hope I get there after a while as well. It's fun to share experiences with people that you care about, so maybe I'll get the chance to do that (definitely will with family though).

I only let people i trust drive the car with me in it. Not that i dont trust them, but its more that all my cars tend to have small quirks that i'd rather point out and explain while they drive rather than have them experience it, freak out, then hit something.

Plus me being in the car allows me to control the amount of hooning that goes on.

Agree with Xxyion. I've let people drive it, as I said earlier, but I wouldn't feel comfortable letting anyone take it anywhere without me in it. I have maybe two friends who have ever consistently driven any performance car, lots of friends whose driving skills I've observed and respect, and several that don't seem to know that they aren't very good at it.

There are tons of cars on the road that are faster than our M2C's, but none of my friends own them. My car is actually the performance king in our little group, at the moment. The next fastest car that any of them own at the moment is an A3 of all things...so no one drives mine without me in it.

No one has driven it yet and I guess I'm selfish but not in a rush to let anyone soon. I'm not saying I wouldn't but not excited about it. My misses is insured but isn't worried as she is quite happy in her M4.

Random people, no? Friends who I know can drive manual, sure. Family, sure. Half the fun of the car is taking people on rides and letting other people experience it from behind the wheel. I haven't quite convinced my Dad to drive it, but I'm working on it.
