What are you looking into getting after the M2 Comp?
I've been on the 2-series chassis for 4 years now (M240i, OG M2, M2C) and while I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every variant, I'm low key itching for a new driving experience.
The issue is that the M2 platform ticks so many boxes. It's lightning fast, its a good daily driver and the price is of great value. Where do you really go for a better driving experience? Especially on the new market, where everything has been gimped down for environmental reasons and the driving experience has become an afterthought in favor of tech and comfort These pics below are the cars that are crossing my mind. Both new and used. Used sounds like a nightmare but its not uncommon to find good samples. Also gives you a lot more headroom for modding, upgrading, fixing if you research the car's main issues and limitations. What do you guys think? What car will you go for next? Since we're mostly speaking in hypotheticals, I would take this bitch next, if it ever becomes a production car

The Boxster GTS with the 4.0 is now on the list, but I also currently have deposits on:
Porsche Taycan 4S Corvette C8 Tesla Cybertruck I definitely get sucked in by the hype. Current thinking is to swap out the C8 with the Boxster 4.0. Taycan is a maybe but the Cybertruck is a must. Taycan is just so $$$$$. I I drove the Turbo S, and it's a beast, but $209K sticker :0 |

My "daily" Honda Element (best vehicle I've ever owned) is one of the very rare ones with a MT-- if it got hit by a meteor, I'd have to at least look at the Bronco. I've never owned an automatic transmission, but the times? They are a'changin'. R. |

Hypothetically, i feel like the next step has to be a Porsche. My personal preference is for a manual transmission, maybe a used 991, or a 997 turbo. Cayman GT4 would also be a thing i'd like.
Realistically? A POS beater project car? another lemons car? Maybe a cheap winter beater? I won't be getting a true replacement for the M2C any time soon. I have a weird place in my heart for obscure foxbodies, Capri or Thunderbird would be my preference, but manual swapped Lincoln could be cool too. Super ugly, but i secretly like the 8K rpm Corolla. Would make a good winter beater. Likely a terrible choice for a lemons car (base engine too slow, good engines too fragile) but fuck it, i like the S12 and it's something slightly different. I've read it's like a convertible GT4, NA and six cylinder What makes it so special? And won't pricing be a bitch like with the GT4 (scarcity and ridiculous mark ups)?

It's an "ordinary" Porsche, not a special model like the GT series with limited allocations. You can go to Porsche center today and order now a GTS with a reasonable waiting time, the same process for a GT4 could take more than a year (unless you are a GT Porsche client with a special confidential treatment). I hate the Porsche politics for GT models (limited allocations, insane markups), but that's not the case for the GTS 4.0. |

I really like the new Vantage. Aston Martin's typically take big depreciations hits, a 3-4 year old car might be somewhat reasonable...

I'd avoid the F10 M5 if you're looking for driving experience unless you're gonna mod it heavily. Steering alone makes me say no to that car, so disconnected from the road.

I wish I didn't, but I constantly think about what car is next. If my car got hit by a rampaging elephant today, I'd seriously consider only a few cars. A GT350, the first Mustang I've ever really considered an option, for the NA V8 with a manual. I'm deeply intrigued by how well it's been reviewed. I got to take one on a short test drive and the thing is impressive (but large and I really hated the interior). Going the other direction and going for a Model 3 Performance could be an option, too. Also a very good chance I'd just grab another M2C with a manual instead of my current DCT.
There's a small chance that I'd give up and go for an X3M Competition...but I still just can't bring myself to go SUV. I deeply want to own a Porsche 911 or Cayman at least once, but it's a tricky proposition due to price, how steep my driveway is, and the fact that I don't have room in the garage or my life for more than one car at a time. If the elephant waits a while, the G87 could still be on the list if the styling isn't too bad and it turns out to be a good car. |
