RE: installation costs

If you can't remove the literally two bolts it takes to swap an axleback...well, you probably want a phone app to control your exhaust sound.

Well now, that is certainly a relief. So it would only run about $3500 for this seemingly nonfunctional new muffler (I'm not inclined to call it an 'exhaust system' since apparently it is not), which one would install (a DIY no less) on a new $55,000, 365 hp M car. To what purpose remains unclear, other than you can use your iphone to talk to the muffler and command it to make your new M car sound like a rice rocket.

Sign me up, pronto! If and when I am able to lay hands on the car it is supposed to 'accessorize.'

Maybe it will also play the Star Spangled Banner. Would be a real conversation piece at your kid's Little League games.

I'm going to try to mod the stock exhaust. I did the mod in my e90 m3 and it was amazing.

Yup. Hopefully, someone will cut their stocker open so we can see.

The difference between some BMWPEs in the past has often only been a couple of holes/perforations in one or two pipes within the axleback. Super easy to cover up...and...bam...free performance exhaust.

Exactly!

I'm cheap and no way I'm spending $4k on an axle back exhaust.

Doing the exhaust mod on the M2 looks to be easy IMO. Only draw back is you wont have the Bluetooth capability. I don't mind it semi loud all the time since it won't be my daily. My plan is to buy a used M2 exhaust for $150 and experiment on it.

I suppose that's about as close to shade tree mechanics anyone can get these days. That, or call in your friendly neighborhood coding wonk.

Gone are the good old days of twin SUs, a wrench and a screwdriver.

Yes, but that is a full TITANIUM exhaust. This is two steel mufflers with 4 tips costing nearly 4k.

Not justifying either because I personally consider both to be a ripoff, but I think the F8X MPE is a lot more for your money.

Maybe due to the fact that M135i MPE is an axleback and M2 MPE cat back

Maybe configured similarly to the B58 F3x MPPK and sound exhaust - two valves that give either partial or total muffler bypass....

BMW 340i MPPK sounds good in the YT clips below....

Help me out here, why a blue tooth controller? I can't figure out how it's necessary, why not have this on the dash?

The bluetooth controller enables you to switch between "normal" and "track" mode on the MPE.

As the MPE is retrofit, they supply the controller as a retrofit too. It can't be on the dash as the MPE is not a factory option and therefore having a button on the dashboard just to control the flaps on an after market product doesn't make sense I guess?

If you don't want an MPE, you'd have a redundant button on the dashboard that doesn't do anything.

Hope that helps

tracking the car also seems to open up the exhaust a bit too.

Thanks - sales guy told me it was put in at the factory, but after reading your post I pressed him and got an email response:

"We install the exhaust via Port in Halifax where many of our performance components are installed. Fully warrantied of course.

As for exhaust activation, it is via Bluetooth controller which can be set within the vehicle (it has a fob that fits into cupholder area). The exhaust is actually sensational – so if they are looking to add some drama it is a definite option to check!"
