I can't believe people are still buying the BS that the manual can't handle the power. F80 6MT's have been holding 500+ whp since 2015.

The car might look dated when the G series M2 comes out...but until then, this is the latest and greatest for the F series platform. How can that be old and dated looking?

Regarding the G series M2; have you come across anything on it? I haven't been able to find much of anything on the Gxx 2 Series.

Perhaps Artemis knows?

"Old and dated looking" ? What about "vintage and classic" ?

"Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of '99.
Wear sunscreen; if I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it; the long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience...
I will dispense this advice now.
Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh never mind, you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded; but trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked...
You're not as fat as you imagine.
Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum; the real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing everyday that scares you.
Sing.
Don't be reckless with other people's hearts, don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss.
Don't waste your time on jealousy;
Sometimes you're ahead; sometimes you're behind; the race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself.
Remember compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch.
Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life; the most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.
Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't, maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't, maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary.
Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either.
Your choices are half chance, so are everybody else's.
Enjoy your body, use it every way you can... Don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it; it's the greatest instrument you'll ever own...
Dance... even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.
Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents, you'll never know when they'll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings, they're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don't expect anyone else to support you; maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.
Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it; advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen..."

Its all good, let the people have their manuals, eventually all manuals will be phased out for automatics, there is nothing more to gain from manual gearboxes, sure it's a nice feeling to be shifting on your own but it dosn't justify the drop in 0-60 times, the drop in MPG nor the drop in driving accessibility for BMW in whom they can reach with their products.

Overall the automatic is a better package then the manuals, but the manuals have a certain feel to them by shifting your self but it just isn't worth it anymore sens loads of people do city driving most of the time, then manuals are the worse choice.

That's the one thing i disliked about my 235 was the city driving experience with a manual or when in huge traffic congestion shift to 1-2 2-1 1-3 3-1 rinse and repeat that was the worst part.
Also nothing more to be gained out of steering wheels and pedals, but we keep those in cars because it's part of driving. Removing a pedal for your left foot and shifting mechanism for you right hand doesn't equal an improvement in driving experience for many of us.

Not sure why this debate continually comes up and reverts back to something about MPG or speed of shifts. That actually is never debated by those who prefer a manual.

The second generation M2: ain't nuthin' but a G thang ?

G87 is scheduled for December 2022 till March 2029 production, likely manufactured in the BMW San Luis Potosi plant (Mexico) (see the dedicated thread here).

Internal code names:
  • the internal code name for the E92 M3 GTS was "Jägermeister":
"BMW M GmbH chief Kay Segler says the internal code name for the M3 GTS was «Jägermeister», a reference to the famous German digestif and frat fuel with a history of sponsoring motorsports" (source: here, here and here)
  • the internal code name for the E82 1M was "Pyrat":
"Before the 1 Series M Coupe was given its official designation, BMW M referred to the model internally as «Pyrat», allegedly because of the engineers' affection for a spiced rum of the same name" - "Above all else it's a car that allows the M Division to fly the pirate flag once again within BMW and in some ways the automotive world. And it all sort of makes sense considering the code name for the 1M is «Pyrat». A name inspired by late nights creating the car followed up by later nights drinking Pyrat Rum" (source: here, here and here)
  • the internal code name for the F87 M2 was "Pyrat2":
"The code nickname for the M2 is «pyrat2». Why pyrat2? If you recall, the 1M coupe's nickname was «pyrat»" (source: here)
  • the internal code name for the G87 M2 is "Drift Machine":
"The next-generation 2-Series will be called the «Drift Machine», so whenever I [Klaus Frölich - BMW product development] look at the design I can say «Adrian [Adrian van Hooydonk - BMW design chief], does that really look like a drift machine? It should have more thrill, do something more». If I drive the car I say «is it a drift machine ?»" "He [Klaus Frölich] claims responsibility for the «Drift Machine» moniker because he wants the designers and engineers developing the model range to understand its intended purpose as a driver’s car." (source: here and here)

It was Jerez, too?? if the 981 wasn't in the picture that would have been damn near perfect for an F80 spec.

The carbon-structure cloth is awesome!
I ordered SO leather back in 2014 because I had not seen the cloth.
After seeing/driving a car with the cloth, it looks really sporty
and feels really good, BMW nailed it on the cloth seat for FXX.
