Horn brackets completely snapped....
My 2018 M2 had BOTH of its horn brackets snap, which led to the horn not functioning. I have never been in an accident in it. The pics are from the dealership videos they sent.
Has this happened to anyone before? What did they rivet the new bracket into? |

Mine failed the same way at about 10K miles (clown car honk), replaced under warranty, and then failed again 10K miles later. That second horn seems to fail during very cold weather, and then works intermittently when warmed up. After a while it stops working altogether.
My work garage requires a honk at intersections so I used it daily until the COVID lockdown. On a side note, I took the car to BMW of Sterling, VA the first time, and after waiting 2 hours, they said I'd need to leave he car overnight. When I asked why, the SA said something about needing to remove the steering rack. WTF? They were busy and never got to it and wanted to feed me some bull. I gave the manager an earful and took my business elsewhere. Anyway, my guess is that its location allows water intrusion and the cold weather causes it to freeze, eventually causing a crack or a short. When it gets out of warranty I may have to mount it elsewhere or find a way to shield it. |

I’ve had several horns replaced under warranty over the last 4-yrs, so I’m expecting my next one to go out later this year.
OEM replacements are almost $50ea. Anyone tried some cheaper aftermarket horns like these? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/sup...399801#reviews |

They're pretty decent horns imo, alot of subaru guys run them behind the grilles so you can see the red outlines as sort of an aesthetic thing. They are also stupid loud too so yeah.

I have to mention their sound profile is kind of higher pitch like most japanese cars, compared to the lower pitch horn on the m2.
In terms of volume comparison it has been awhile since I heard the super tones but I think they might be the same in terms of volume. I really don't remember too well since I don't use the horn that often. I probably should check if my m2's horn still works lol.

My car in garaged and is never driven in the cold and my garage is heated as well Clearly BMW purchased horns from a crappy supplier and now they're paying the price accordingly

Might want to see if they're working incase you ever actually need it for safety
I might just replace mine with some aftermarket horns

Hey sorry to bring up an old thread. Did you ever find out how they got it back on the bracket? I just noticed my brackets were also broken as well and have no idea yet how to fix it.

From a quick look, it seems like the replacement brackets are 51647245791 & 51647245792 (see [1]), but it looks like it would be a major PITA to replace so I will probably try to make a custom bracket and piggy-back on some existing mounting points. The original mounting design seems flawed anyway, I am not too surprised it broke because the whole weight of the horn (which is offset via the L bracket it is bolted to so has increased leverage) is only supported by this small tab. It's probably bending back and forth over time and ends up with a fatigue failure. [1]: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_8380 Last edited by c0riolis; 09-19-2023 at 03:20 AM.. |

- Top brace -- the one with the hood latches bolted to it (it's bolted to the bracket) - Headlight (it's bolted to the bracket) - Aux/Oil cooler (it's bolted to the bracket) - Airbox ducting (it goes through the bracket) * Keeping in mind that I had already removed the following to install the ER FMIC: - Bumper - Crash bar - V-brace - Intercooler (+ducting) - Underbody reinforcement plate & belly pan - Wheel well liner The main radiator might have to be removed too (it's blocking access to one of the bolts) but I am hoping that just unbolting it and moving it slightly will do. All in all, I cannot say that I recommend going through all of this if you just want to fix this, I am going to do it because I have ordered the part and I already took everything apart, but I am going to try making a custom bracket to reinforce this and prevent both sides from breaking again, but this could potentially be used as a replacement bracket -- it might be a more practical/economical solution for you. |

Mine failed last week at around 33,000 miles.
Picking it up today with the replacement/repair done from a BMW dealer. The cost is $693!!! Luckily, the car is still warranty from CARVANA (just have to pay $50 deductible). If if weren't for the warranty, I may have decided to live with the Roadrunner Beep Beep horn sound. |
