Meh, if it's my time it's my time. I put 5000 miles on my brand new motorcycle in 2 months, and I was pushed off the highway and pulled out in front more times than I can count.

I don't spend my time worrying about what will happen when I get into an accident, I just enjoy driving and riding. Life's too short to be scared.

I had my share in E46 M3! No crashes but few times I was eye witness of few terrible accidents on the race tracks. Luckily was no injuries in those Miatas

Most Miata track rats install a cage if they are smart.

Way to small for my tastes.

Kid seats in the back while doing track duty became a priority, and the CS fit that bill nicely. Knowing the tethers will work nicer than I thought is great!
Can I ask what you didn't like about the GT4? I've got an M2CS allocation to replace my F80, but I'm leaning heavily towards dropping that for a Cayman GTS 4.0.

Sure. First thing I noticed was constant transmission whine at all speeds with little to no engaging engine noise until wound up which was unexpected. Lots of tinny rocks off the fenders while driving and road noise so loud you couldn't have a conversation. Those were the things I could have lived with. The engine didn't really start to sing or make much of a noise until 5k, which with the gearing was illegal speeds in second gear already. Basically wasn't fun to play with or row gears in around the back roads or city unless you are willing to forfeit your license. It was pretty clear that it was a fabulous track car with great precision but was just not setup to be playful in day to day driving like I found the M2 to be. A lesson I learned a long time ago was recognize the purpose of the vehicle you are buying for and don't compromise it for low percentage uses. So even though I'll track a fair number of times, most driving will be fun back roads and city driving, and the GT4 was not the best candidate for ME in those cases. Add in that I realized that taking my kids on drives and to car shows mattered in the equation it further tipped the GT4 off the scale even though it had been a five year dream and obsession. Your views may vary.

I’m on the list for new GT4 and I can tell you old 981 GT4 was a blast. I had 15 M3 and 981 was great car. Do to demand and pricing year a go I’ve opted for M2C which is a great car for the money. CS sounds great but I’m leaning towards new GT4. Again allocations are very limited and most of the dealers are asking for MDM here in CA. I have guaranteed spot for CS so it’s a tough call

My dilemma has always been M2 vs M3.

I prefer the size factor of the M2, but I need the practicality of 4 doors. If the M2 came in 4 doors, it would be a no-brainer for me.

At some point when I replace the dedicated track car, I want it to get it replaced with a cayman variant and hopefully the GT4. it'll be a few more years though after the CS purchase though. I may consider a 997 GT3 though too for that purpose.

Yeah, get you there. The M3 hasn't interested me much for a performance toy because of the overall size. If it was my daily, then sure. When I bought my 335 I thought about buying an M3 instead, but decided the extra performance wasn't needed for the every day driving, and I didn't want to deal with the extra firmness, costs, etc for something I'd only track occasionally. So I picked up a cheaper dedicated track car (my E36) and went with the 335i instead. Haven't ever regretted that decision. Now the issue is my E36 is pretty minty and the value keeps going up so I may unwind the suspension on it at some point, do a little restoration work on it and offload it to swap to a Cayman for a track car. I'll break even to even make a grand on the car doing that after owning it off and on over the last 6+ years.

looks great with the black wheels. Not much of a fan of the gold.

+1

We love our OG M2, and I like the F80, but it's just too big for my tastes. The practicality is awesome, but it really is a big car compared to the M2. My 981 feels tiny compared to the F80 and small compared to the M3.

The F80 is a lease that we will turn in shortly, and I won't be sad to see it go, even though it has been a good car. I look for reasons to drive the wifey's OG M2 - just a great package. The C and CS build on that and I am sure the CS is going to be a great car.
