Like I've been holding off on buying the M2 because of the CS news, and what's worse is that there won't be any damn MG... I mean silver won't be bad, it just really bums me out. So now it just boils down to two questions, do I wait for the M2CS? Or do I buy my M2 and trade in Down the line for the CS because at this point I'm blue balling myself to death
sounds like you and i are in the same boat.

i like the 2018 lci because of the sound of n55, mineral grey, manual trans.

Hoping that the CS is manual and sounds better than current S55. will have to wait and see on the colors...none of the ones listed are making me feel like i need to have 'em.
im planning on tuning the M2 to +400hp so i guess the CS will have to be pretty special. i would possibly pay 12-15k over base M2.

Type: 2U73
Model: M2 Competition - USA
Development Code: F87 (MUE)
Chassis: COUPE
Steering: LL
Doors: 2
Engine: S55
Displacement: 3.00
Power: 302
Drivetrain: HECK
Transmission: MECH
Color: Hockenheim Silber Metallic - C33
Upholstery: Led.dak.des.perf.schwarz/blau - MDB2
Production Plant: LEIPZIG
Production Date: 0001-01-01
So what do we got here: M2 CS ("M2 Competition") - USA model - S55 engine - 3.0 litre - 302 kW - Hockenheim Silver exterior (BMW paint code C33) - perforated black Dakota leather with blue stitching

302 kW = 410.6 hp (metric) = 405 hp (mechanic) (this corresponds with the power figure in the first post of this thread). Thus a 40 hp (metric) power bump compared to the base M2, albeit with a different engine (S55 instead of N55).

If legit (I think it is), this may possibly limit most further speculation about the engine type and (minimum) power output of the forthcoming M2 CS. However, we do not know whether this VIN info regards an early or recent M2 CS test mule. Nevertheless, it gives us a yardstick.
And what does MECH mean for transmission, and what is the corresponding designation for 6MT ?

speaking of test mules .. we just did see that a fleet was spotted hot weather testing in the desert... it appeared to be black.. but that's nothing a wrap and some camo can't cover.

It just means there is no Torque Converter. 2U73 would cover both a 6MT and DCT US Market Type Certificate. 2U8x is a dummy code for back end Control Modules and diagnostics of automated manuals and doesn't get used unless a Torque Converter option exists (that definitely won't be happening)

So yes DCT, 50/50 chance 6MT offered.

Is it possible to order a custom color on the CS? If Hockemheim Silver isn't good enough, I'll gladly do a custom paint order with the orange interior stitching. Mmmm just thinking about the orange interior stitching with mineral grey or Hockemheim Silver

That is an option, but wraps are mostly so ugly and so expensive when done on a acceptable quality level.

I think dmboone25 has experience with Cayman and an M car as well.
You are definitely correct - the Cayman was more expensive from the maintenance standpoint. I don't remember the exact amount, but my 20,000 mile service (including tires) was going to be really salty. I wouldn't say it's a reason NOT to get a P car, but it is definitely something you have to factor into the overall cost of ownership.

It's funny, because the average person in the P dealership just doesn't blink when those types of numbers are tossed around...I had to keep myself from falling over.

Interesting on the perforated Dakota. Has this been deployed before, most BMW seats with ventilation and perforations have been Nappa/Merino I think??

Dakota is like rhino scrotum - be amazed if they can perforate that and make it look good!

Surely we want alcantara buckets?

The VIN specs indicated that - as expected - the M2 CS test mule / pre-production car has indeed been built at the BMW Leipzig factory.

You would think if this factory has constraints on capacity they would get say Alpina to custom paint and put a decent interior in it. What is currently proposed appears to reflect a lack of ability to make a really special car.

Do you think that the M2 CS will get the S55 with the steel driveshafts or the CF driveshafts ??.

Apparently all M3/M4 barring the M4 CS and GTS will be switching from CF driveshafts to Steel due to the requirement to insert an emission related device in the space.

Steel. Zero chance for CF now I'd think with the F8X back track. Though hmm it stays in the M4GTS so maybe it becomes an GTS trademark.
