Cool! Are you going to be losing the valve with this kit as well?

Also which set of tips are you going with?
Yes, the valve is eliminated.

Zoom in, bottom right you can see the tips, went with the black finish.

Love the black tips! Have you picked a diffuser yet or do you plan on keeping the stock one?

Stock for now. I don't know the route I am going with the front end (if any) and just having the carbon diffuser is not the route I want.

My rear view mirrors are covered with XPEL so no sense of getting the carbon covers and that's why I went with the painted spoiler rather than carbon one.

Fabspeed Muffler Bypass

Will do full review during the week.. PITA to install (mostly to centralize and align nicely, and was missing thescrews that tighten the tips to the exhaust.. Sent Fabspeed a message, the shop improvised with some screws but they are a bit too long.

But regardless.. the sound...Videos don't do justice..

Will load videos once edited!

This is my honest review on the Fabspeed Muffer Bypass. It might be lengthy but I am passionate about cars and tend to talk a lot. Plus I like to add details in case other people out there have questions on something I try to detail as much as possible.

Ordering was handled by the shop a friend of mine recommended. Bobby from Fabspeed and I had been interchanging messages for quite a while with questions I had, mostly about the Sport Cat Downpipe. They have been great at addressing anything I asked.

I changed my mind from doing just the Sport Cat to the Bypass only because although Fabspeed advertises that no CEL turns on, I don’t want to risk it. The best benefits would be with both of them installed and a Tune, but I don’t want to lose warranty so quick thus I am not planning on tuning any time soon. I will wait and see if anyone else installed the Sport Cat with no tuning and has no CEL in a while.

The exhaust arrived nicely packaged and the finish on this looks great. Soldering on it looks nice and clean, the finish on the tips is great. No instructions in the package but it gives you links to the website to get some.
Finish on this product I am really happy with.

The Fabspeed tips are slightly bigger than the OEMs. The shape and color on them is great.

After installing most pieces is when the fun and pain starts. I am thinking it’s caused by the rear clamp and the fact that you have the two OEM hangers and that joint for the clamp as your pivot points.
I was also missing the screws that attach the tips. The guys at the shop looked around their spare screws to get me running but they are a bit long, I sent Fabspeed a message about this, hopefully they can send me the correct ones.

Fabspeed has a good picture online as to what screw to use as a guide for the cutting point. After cutting and presenting all to the car (tips installed also) it took easily an hour to just get them to sit straight and centered. As soon as you started tightening the rear clamp the exhaust either would shift to a side or fall to an angle looking down.

The OEM pipe I believe is slightly bigger than the Fabspeed portion so the clamp fits very tight on the OEM part and looser on the Fabspeed and when you start tightening it tends to shift it bit.

The guys at Auto Tuning House were very patient and took their time to make sure it was centered and at the correct angle. In pics, depending the angle, you might think it’s not straight but they are pretty much centered. They do sit a bit lower than OEM but you had to play with the system to be centered and high and after an hour of adjusting this was as best it finished.

The good thing about them sitting a bit lower than stock is that I was able to clean them easily on the top, something that is very difficult with the OEMs sitting so close to the stock diffuser.

Ok, so installation pain aside, the sound on this is amazing.

I was very concerned that by removing the muffler I would get an annoying loud sound or just this kind of sound were it feels too open.
It does not, the videos cannot capture the true sound of this. But it basically turns up that OEM sound a notch or two up. It is a solid growl overall and across the entire rev band. The popping sound when you lift is more pronounced but not annoying.

There is little to no drone between 2800-3200 mostly but it is not painful and you can still have a conversation in the car while cruising. I have owned track cars that were street legal and had a drone which made your head want to blow when going cruising speeds. This is completely tolerable at cruising speeds.

When in Traction mode it does sound angry and pops much more. I am usually in Sport+ 99% of the times and like I said the sound is amazing.

If I had to rate this on a 1-10 scale:

Finish – 9 (System looks good, good soldering, nice bends, tips look great)

Fit – 7 (You have to struggle a lot to get this centered and straight, maybe a better design of the rear clamp perhaps? Or maybe some shorter rubber hangers to replace the OEM ones to get this lifted a bit more.)

Sound – 10 (Amazing sound, little to no drone, worth the installation pain)

Price – 10 (compared to all other systems out there this is a bang for the buck)

Overall I am very happy with it. There is no muffler to break in so I wouldn’t expect the sound to change long term.

Thanks for the write-up ! I get the impression that the tips are too low and that you can see the front end of them below the diffuser in the last but one photo....

Thanks for reading! They are sitting a bit lower than stock but still good for my taste. They are straight at least. If I get the correct tip screws I might push them in to sit flush inside the diffuser and see if that avoids seeing the back of them at certain angles.

where did you get that painted spoiler?

I as well, think the exhaust is hanging to low, but if you are happy with it I guess that is all that matters.

Spoiler was a seller off Ebay, found a thread with full details from the person who discovered the seller. Seller doesn't list the color on the auction but by messaging he provides it.

Yep they are lower than stock, but not much wiggle room to raise further, will see how they look once I push the tails further in.

Although I was good with the look of them, everyone pointing them out to be very low got me looking at them a while and thinking if it could be lifted a bit more.

I thinkg they are much better now.. shorter rubber hangers will do the trick!

Am also wanting to make this change/mod...been on this for a while now.

1. Curious about why FabSpeed allowed them to be quite low after install...as they used an M2 mule on site for fitments and video marketing.

2. AND how, or where did you get shorter rubber hangers? From FSpeed?

Perhaps FSpeed will adjust this in design soon????? And then how did you have to mod the hangers to get them lower.

Thanks for any further info on this...great write up. Hey don't worry about the longer prose...some of us like the details.

Not sure why the fitment was such a pain or was a bit off. Its straightforward, cut at a specific point and from there hookup align and bolt up. Not sure how many current M2's out there have this installed or how many that actually installed it have reviewed it.

The shorter hangers were sourced from Amazon. I did a couple searches here and there and ended up seeing the ones I picked. Was around 20 bucks shipped.

Thanks for reading and dropping a line.

The articulation of the tips can be limited if the tips are pushed too far into the tail-pipe. There should only be a 1/4" of grab on the tips to the tailpipe to retain full articulation. With the ball-flare tips, there is lots of adjustment ability if installed properly.

We haven't seen this situation before - it looks like you've properly addressed it. We will go back and look at our fixture and everything to make sure the product is the best it can possibly be.

Thanks for the support over the phone, to reiterate what we talked on the call:

There are four parts here working together (using numbers to reference easier):

1. The bypass ending itself (chrome/polished) portion
2. A 2-3" gray tubing that the tips attach to
3. The actual clamp that says Fabspeed which grabs 1 and 2 above
4. The tip

The order they go is:

You attach 1 and 2 with 3 and 4 attaches to 2.

Based on our conversation, 1 and 2 need to sit flush face to face under clamp 3.

And 4 should only grab part 2 by 1/4" deep.

I just got notified UPS dropped of the screws I was missing that you guys overnight-ed to me (Thanks for that!).

I will loosen the tips completely and reinstall as described above and report back.

Exhaust was looking better, but after talking to Fabspeed Motorsport and trying to follow some adjustments to see if it fitted better with no alterations now its having more issues. Will post details shortly. I had been in email communication with Fabspeed since Wednesday interchanging pics and info. Late Wednesday I summarized the issues I still had and was awaiting for more feedback.

Thursday afternoon sent out a final email asking for feedback but got no response so I was assuming they were closed for Holidays, but I saw the account active here on the forums yesterday so I would think they are working.

I will be summarizing with some pics and details on adjustments suggested and the issues I am seeing now.
