I am surprised to see the G80 M3 on an all time great list. My buddy has one on order and I am excited to have a go in it.

I was actually surprised the CRT and E61 made the list . It could have been the clownshoe Z3M or the E36 M3 LTW . But its ok . The best are in there .

I agree, there are definitely a few other "special" cars out there. Lets face it, many of us here love almost all of them...

aside from the butchered front and the big wig that signed it off, the g8x platform is quite surprising and is very stable at high speed and cornering. Even if it's on the porker side, the M team did an outstanding job implementing their formula to be another great M car. They have done this in every generation and we complained how the new one will never be a true M car blah blah. I've had the last 3 generations of Ms, e46, e90, f80 and f87 and even had an e34 and e39, and bmw M continues to evolve in each generation.

Never in my seat time with past M cars would i ever have to loosely defend the G8x, but when I attended the GT4 experience at BMW Thermal where i get to drive close to 2hrs of seat time on the G82 M4, it can be an amazing machine. As stated, the car was very easy to control under braking and corner exit. Drove at the same track with the F82 M4 at past events, it can be a bit unsettling when attacking the same driveline.

I like short wheeled base cars as they are more direct. But it was satisfying for me to finally have my own analysis and experience on all the hype on the G8x platform. The front end and how wide the car still kills it for me everytime. If you don't mind the front, it's a great car.

I know, most of my cars after the 1M were "better" in every way but there's something about that pit bull that's left a lasting impression....

I agree with you , its a good car but i wouldnt compare it with the M2 CS and the E46 M3 . I always found it a bit overrated imo.

Its pumped by people who own it, like its a crypto token. In reality, it was an "in the moment" car. As the M3 was getting bigger with a v8, it catered to the e30-forever crowd. It does have hydraulic steering though.

But as a US customer, i'd have an M4 GTS or M2 CS over it and they are in a similar price range.

Very true . I mean its still a nice little car , but as you said it was “in the moment” car. It may be fun to drive , but i think the M2 CS is the sweet spot , its a bit more planted , but you can break the tail so easy and manage to take it where you want to , or choose not to drive like a maniac. The potential of cars like the E46 F87 chassis is just insane. Sub 7 the nurburgring , but still very fun on the road. The 1M was the beginning of the new era tho . Like the E21 to the first M3 , the E30 . Like the 1M to the first M2 , the F87. I respect it , and im sure its fun and awesome to drive !

Obviously this is a global list, but once again, for a US customer, we received only 2 track special Ms (F82 GTS, and now the G82 CSL). If you can find roads where you won't break the front splitter off and you don't mind the wing, the M4 GTS is a top 10 M car and can be had for about $100k.

The CSL is a nice compromise with adaptive dampers and more ground clearance, but it still goes for big money.

But shopping around an M4 GTS is a comparison to a clean 1M or M2 CS. If i was getting a DCT car and didn't need daily usability, that would be my choice between those 3 cars.

I agree with what you say, but want to add something else. I think the G80/2 is truly when the car is closer to an M5 than actual M3 in terms of ethos and size.

The G80 for example, really has nothing to do with an E46 M3 anymore. However, it's much closer to the size and is more DD-able than previous ones.

And as you said, for a car that size, the thing can dance for sure.
