Anyone running 265/40/18?

Hey all,

I just picked up a set of Apex EC7 Forged 18X9.5 ET28 wheels for my 2018 OG M2. The car is completely stock. I had a set of 265/35/18 Hankook RS4s installed and there is a massive amount of fender gap. The 265/35/18 seems to be the most popular square size so I went that direction without doing my homework completely.

As I understand it, the overall diameter of a tire should be within 3% of the original tire size. Michelin lists the 265/35/19 at 26.3" Hankook lists the RS4 at 25.3". 3% puts that tire at 26.06" which is outside of the 3% rule. The front would be OK.

That leads me to think that a 265/40/18 which is listed at 26.2 would be a much better match. Am I thinking about this correctly?

Would I have fitment issues with a 265/40/18?

Thanks!

Here's my M2C on 245/40R18 fronts and 265/40R18 rears on Apex VS-5RS in 9.5" and 10.5" widths. It doesn't appear that the rear tires would fit on the front axle because they are too tall.

These look fantastic!

I was planning on also running some 18" VS-5RS with some GoodYear SuperCar 3 tires in 255/40/18 up front and 275/40/18 in the rear. I think both should fit, but curious on your thoughts smmmurf.

Also, can you share whether you modified the suspension on your M2, which wheel offset are you running, and how is the overall fitment (i.e. do you run any additional spacers to get good flush fitment)?

These are essentially my endgame wheels for the M2 so any insight is appreciated!

The car is running Ohlins TTX with +22 and +40 offsets in the front and rear, respectively, and it runs no spacers.

I’m running 265/40r18 front and 275/40r18 rear in Goodyear Supercar 3 right now. I normally run 255/275 40, but the 255 has been backordered forever.

My car is mildly lowered with 3.2* camber, same et28 18x9.5 front wheels, but with a 7.5mm spacer for strut clearance to the Ohlins spring perch.

Anyway, the front tires have rubbed through the front fender liner at around 10 or 2 toward the bumper depending on the side you’re looking at. They are now working on the aluminum behind the liner, which I believe is part of the crash bar? Seems to only be at bottom out, but my primary home track has a big g-out that triggers it each lap.

If you don’t have a big compression to worry about, you can probably get away with it, but it’ll be a gamble.

255/40r18, 275/35, 265/35 did not rub at all with the setup above in various tires.

I’m running this exact tire setup on 18x9.5 et23 and 18x10.5 et37. Had to raise the rear a little and add more camber because it was rubbing. Once I did that I had no issues. No issues with the fronts. Unfortunately like Bentom2 mentioned the 255/40/18 are backordered. So will have to go with a different tire.
