Front license plate

My M2 is on the boat. While impatiently waiting for it I got to thinking about the front plate. For those in the USA in a state with a front license plate requirement, how did you mount it without interfering with the intakes and without causing damage?

For now my dealer has agreed not to put it on for me but I think somehow I do need to figure out how to do it without putting holes in the body or blocking airflow.

although I'll point out, if it gets pulled out a bit it will interfere with the parking sensors. as long as I push it flush with the bumper after washing the car it's problem free.

In Texas they are getting tougher, I think. When I bought mine, I had to sign a piece of paper that acknowledged that I didn't want the dealer to put it on.

Illinois requires front plates but I do not have them installed on any of my cars. My wife was given one ticket years ago but other than that we've never been bothered. Chicago loves to gives tickets for this stuff so when I'm downtown with a car I always find garage parking and keep the nose in.

Every jurisdiction is different in their enforcement though.

Just make sure you don't park in a city owned/operated garage or else they'll get you. Guess how I found this out.

I personally hate the offset look of tow hook plates.

I use the Carbonio, nothing drilled, perfectly centered, no bracket -- appears floating and looks awesome.

I keep Carbonio plate in my trunk, and whenever I park on the street (gotta do it sometime in SF) I'll just attach it to my car.

I just don't run one. Car looks way better without it. Only one ticket in 3 years.

I’m very happy with Carbonio as well.

Definitely tell the dealer you don’t want the front plate bracket installed.

I forbid putting on my front license plate. Shoot I'm still driving around with my European ED plate. Been 1+ years already.

I actually liked the look of the front ED plate taped on. I had to remove it due to putting on the clear bra.

I liked the carbonio because it won't leave holes, is easy to remove, and keeps the plate in the center. The offset mounted plates scream "I like to speed" in my opinion.

Definitely do not let the dealership put the front plate bracket on...they drill right into the bumper and my wife's X5 is not perfectly centered. It doesn't bother her, but it drives me crazy!

Count me in the Carbonio camp - once installed, it is super quick & easy to remove and re-attach (w/o tools); plus, as others mentioned, it requires no drilling and, best of all, is centered. Here in MD enforcement is strict!
