Remember the side vents on the 1M rear bumper ? As we know, these mimic 'air vents', but in reality are blocked with plastic inserts. These only serve the purpose to accommodate the look of a wider E82 bumper resulting from the wider E9X M3 track. Aesthetics as function. The M2 is getting side vents à la 1M. Rumor has it that these will feature rear reflectors inside (à la X5 M and X6 M).

I think some people on here have TOO HIGH expectations of the M2 & M2 CSL that may or may not even come.
"Hmm, this shadow right there... It's kinda different to the M-ZF 8458 car we saw yesterday. Probably an M2 CSL?!"

I think it'd be pretty cool if we could just see a teaser already. We've played the same conversations over and over and over. 3 months away and we've got nothing.

I keep looking at the M3/4 and once again toying with the idea of picking up a used E92. The wife wants to test drive Porsches and Audi because she doesn't like the fart can exhaust of the M3. I agree that teasers are way overdue already. Not like we are getting an exact replica of the GT6 in a CSL format. I'm sure get the car has been thoroughly castrated as to not overshadow its larger sibling so what's the big secrecy about???? : |

That's kind of a pattern with the leaks we hear, and I'm not blaming SCOTT26. Anyone who runs a business knows that plans aren't set in stone. You react to the market and the feedback you get from your teams. It often takes a while for everyone to come up to speed on the latest information.

No (at least not for Joe Public).
Rather put your money on September 17, 2015 - Frankfurt Motor Show. So, less than 3 months from now.

I have no confidence that a vent will appear there on the vanilla M2. What's been said regarding form and function does make sense, even if we have some counter examples. A non-functional vent on the front side of the fender would be pure bullshit. BMW can get away with faux vents like the ones on the 1M bumper because of aesthetic requirements, but a vent on the front side of the rear fender would likely increase Cd, thus degrading fuel economy.
Not to mention, AFAIK, no production M-car has ever come with functional brake ducts. There are lots of aftermarket options, but you'd expect them on the fronts long before the rears.

I'm starting to get pretty annoyed like others why BMW is being so secretive on the base M2 and I'm about to pull the pin hold onto my E46 and look elsewhere. Pull the camo off already! It ain't looking that special to be honest as we already know it's running the N55, no hood bulge, boring colours and most likely no CF roof! Externally, aside from drilled rotors wider body and slightly more aggressive bumpers, how does it differ from an m235i? It's a proper M car so make it look like one! |

Honestly though, do you think it's BMW's problem that you can't decide if you should wait for this so called CSL (which might not even exist)? I think it's a little crazy that you expect the marketing department to hold your hand and tell you what to do with your money. And there's a set schedule for everything. That's how it works with EVERY car launch. It'll be released when it's supposed to be released. There will be online teasers when there are supposed to be released. You guys being impatient is not really their problem. You are fortunate to have a nice e46 M3 to play with at least. Just enjoy it until the M2 comes out |

Scott26: ".....I am not overly familiar with the M2..."
A, somewhat, startling confession, at this stage. And enlightening. I'm going to have to crank up my skepticism a few notches. Thanks for pointing that out. Last edited by fuddman; 06-29-2015 at 11:52 AM.. |
