How Many Miles on car when delivered?

I'm just curious how many miles were on the car when you guys picked up your cars? specifically the people who ordered theirs, and didn't buy off the lot. 3 miles? less? more?

I've been burned by dealership so many times, I want to make sure the car is as in fucked by dealership personnel as possible. the last car I bought they gave the keys to an 18yr old kid for a solo test drive as I was signing the papers. I won't even bother going into joy rides and all the other abuse that shit heads throw on cars that don't belong to them.

Is there anything you guys have done to prevent it? other than asking my salesperson to not let anyone drive it?

4 miles.

I wasnt able to drive it home the day I signed, so it stayed inside showroom until ready for pickup. Had both keys. Never saw rain, or irresponsible joyrides lol.

Mine had 4 when it showed up. They put 6 miles on before I picked it up. I was pissed. Now the engine is blown and has been replaced. Welcome to BMW!

Same for me. It had 4 when it got to the dealership and they put 6 on it for some kind of testing they described. Total of 10 miles when I took delivery.

After reading the above 4 posts it seems that not just BMW, but the entire world is turning into one gigantic shit-hole.

It will be driven by the VPC before it even gets to your dealership. They'll reset the odometer to 0 at the VPC though, dealer then drives it a few miles for gas and part of their check-in process. Some people have asked that they be present for that process. I think 4-8 miles is usually typical. Don't be surprised if the odometer shows less miles than the trip computer (again, because the VPC resets it). My car had 6-7 miles but 11 on the trip.

This thread gives me anxiety lol.

I’ve had so many bad new car experiences I can’t count. This is my first ordered vehicle, which should be arriving this week and I need to send a follow up email stating I don’t want anyone at the dealership to take the car out. I’ve already told them not to wash it and to leave all the wrapping in place.

My sales guy has been really good from the start, but I feel like an issue is inevitable for me.

How sure of this are you? I have never heard about VPC resetting the odometer and would assume that is illegal as it's illegal to sell a car with an odometer reading different than the actual mileage without a disclosure statement. Did you tour VPC and they told you? What is your source? Curiosity more than anything on my part as I really don't have a reason not to believe you.

They don’t reset the odometer at the VPC and I watched my car come off the carrier and no one drove it anywhere. Delivered with 7 miles.

Dag, I wish that the VPC reset mine...I had put on like 1900 miles during My ED trip. Haha

16 on M2C when delivered to me, after installing suspension, detailing and filling gas tank. In my case I think only the CA and mechanic drove the car other than moving it around, e.g. detailing.

Haha. Nice. I think mine had 9? An easy break in is strange to me. I always broke motors in hard after heat cycling them. But there are many thought processes and no perfect answers. So I’ll follow the directions.

When I took delivery of my F350 ford diesel, it was hooked up to the trailer and railed on immediately.

Wait...they gave the car you were purchasing out for a test drive! Most dealers don't even let you sit in, let alone touch a car that's sold.

It depends on if you have secured a loan or payment. I've had dealers offer me "other peoples cars" before only to find out later the guy had ordered it but couldn't pay for it. If you want to make sure no one drives your car, get your loan figured out or pay in full ASAP.

yeah I guess if you haven't paid anything yet (deposit) it's not a contract and they could still try to sell it.

but in my case, I ordered a car, they have a deposit, that's my car, if they were to let someone test drive it and I found out, they would be giving me the deposit back and I'd be walking. Car does not have to be paid in full for it to be sold. if you can't secure financing that's your problem and if you want to back out of the contract you have to deal with losing deposit.

Sorry, I implied a deposit was given to place the order in the first place. What I meant more specifically is when people don't pick up their cars ASAP, are hard to get in touch with to continue the sale, etc. Some people put deposits on many cars and then make up their minds after they come in. Or they just want to be the first to own a specific car or brag they have a deposit down or something, like the people here who have M2C orders and Porsche orders in. Or something happens financially to them after they ordered the car. Even with a deposit, it doesn't guarantee the dealer won't offer your car to someone else, IF they need the sale, have a potential buyer, and the dealer has little hope you will buy it.

If people don't want someone test driving their car, get all your ducks in a row and be on top of things with your dealer. That's how I should've worded what I said before.
