As I wait... M2C Tips and Tricks!

As I continue to wait for my M2C... with others.

Share your M2C Tips and Tricks!

Tell us things you’ve found that others may not know, or aren’t obvious.

For example, in another thread, one poster found the rear seats fold down.

Then Tag, a busy and knowledgeable poster, dropped this gem...

“Want your mind blown again? Most don't know this, but under the left side of the glovebox is yet another 12V cigarette lighter socket.”

Let the fun begin!

I learned that lesson on my first BMW (2010 328iX). That was not fun.

laughed way to hard at this... I've never had my heart sink any harder before when I did that. Luckily I hadn't folded up one of the backseats the whole way from the last time I folded them down to transport a TV. Got really lucky that day.

Tip:

You can directly power the vehicle from under the hood, to pop the trunk (or ever start the engine) by jumping the positive terminal, even if the battery is completely removed.

I used NOCO Genius battery pack.

I was so elated when I found that tip online, after having read a thread about a guy who removed the rear seats to get the trunk open. Another good reason to own a portable jump starter.

It's been a while since I had my E46 and have been away from BMW. I recall the battery being in the trunk, but is there not a physical keyhole to be able to open up the trunk manually?

Nope. No keyhole. Same for F30 3 series as well.

So how do you open it if you accidentally close it?

Poochie gave one solution above. Start the car/give battery to the car by hooking up the terminals under the hood to a battery tender to jump start it. Other option short of trying to figure out how to remove th rear seats is to call roadside assistance and have them do it or tow it to a dealer.

Yep, have to use the terminals under the hood to jump.

If you accidentally close the trunk or your vehicle's battery is completely dead; use the metal key blade within the fob to "manually" open the door locks.

Pop the hood, connect a jumper pack with at least 500 CCA to the vehicle's power bridge and you can use the side of the fender for the ground clamp of the jumper pack.

With power now flowing directly to the vehicle, you can now start the vehicle to recharge the battery or open the trunk.

Another tip, if you vehicle has the "wireless changing" option, it also means the two USB outlets are high-output 2.1A sockets.

Thus, phones with the "rapid charging" technology such as the iPhone X, replenishes power in a fraction of the time.

Vehicle's without the "wireless charging" option has the standard .5A (slow) USB outlet.

When I park for long periods of time, in a busy area, to discourage people from "bump-parking" and royally F-ing up my bumper, I attached the supplied tow hooks to the front and back of my vehicle and just remove them when I'm done.

Kind of anal but when some jerk-off sees a piece of metal protruding from my bumpers, he thinks twice about bumping my vehicle and in turn damaging his.

Those aren't tow hooks, they're called 'betta think twice, muthafucka" parking aids.

Awesome.

I street park my 350Z (and i've owned it for 14 years)

i've gone through 4 front bumpers and my car could honestly use another one. EVERY SINGLE ONE of the accidents requiring a new front bumper have happened when the car was parked. Nobody left a note, because of course. And i'm not being melodramatic, the front bumper in each of these cases was broken and hanging partially off of the car, i'm not replacing it after people are bumper tapping me, only when they hit me hard enough to make the car essentially undrivable.

I won't be regularly street parking the M2 when it comes, but i like the idea of getting the tow hooks out from time to time when I have to park it on the street.

  1. BMW Connected App, send the unlock command.
  2. If you don't have the app (shame on you) call BMW genius, have them send the unlock command.
  3. If you disconnected your battery and left your key in the trunk you can still use your spare key.

How is the vehicle able to receive the unlock command if the battery is disconnected? haha

Laid out all options, including #3 with no battery. Did you miss that?
