Squealing Brakes

I’ve had squealing brakes on my M2C with the 2NH brakes for a few months.

I’ve visually inspected the pads and rotors and didn’t see anything wrong, thought the sound would go away after a few track sessions once I’ve had the brakes heated up properly. That didn’t solve the issue.

Mechanically I don’t think anything is wrong but the majority of my driving is in the city where I am stopping and starting constantly so it gets a bit annoying.

Is this something I should be concerned about and is actually fixable or is it just the norm with these pads?

Fyi i need to do a service in another 3500km and I’ll probably have another track day and two autocrosses on the car by then so if I can snag fresh pads from the dealer out of the deal... I wouldn’t be mad at that.

Also is there a streetable pad for the 2nh? I haven’t had any fade even on a brake heavy track but I’d like to know what my options are just in case.

To the OP. Pad squeal is frequently related to bed-in. The pad transfer layer on the disc face is constantly changing, which is why the squeal is inconsistent. Please see the videos below for more info on this topic. After watching them you should have a much better understanding of pad noise, and brake noise in general:

Thanks, had a feeling it was that as the squeal started about six weeks after I picked the car up and since the motor wasn’t run in i also didn’t take the time to bed the brakes.

Do you have to do the bed in procedure every time after you wash the car or when it rains?

I'm curious to know if the water/soap from washing or water from rain will just undue whatever bedding procedure you did. Since water contact causes rust which is promptly removed when braking, will the layer of pad thats been embedded on the rotors easily go away.

I have the same problem with my M2C. When I took it to dealership for 1200 mi service break-in I was told that the squeal would go away eventually. I'm now at 3000 mi and the noise is still there, even louder now. Very annoying.

I am at 5k and have it every so often. Just drive it like you stole it for a bit and it goes away.

Washing the car will not remove the pad transfer layer. It's mechanically bonded to the discs...stuck on there. You'd need to scrub it with a scotchbrite pad to get it off.
