Early Break In Service

I put 400 miles on my car on ED. The car arrived at the dealer, and they are wanting to do the service, just because the iDrive is saying it's due... I don't know how I feel about this... thoughts?

Yup. I'd still take it easy till 1200mi. I just want to be sure that changing the engine and diff oil too soon isn't a big deal.

Would drive it another 400 miles or so and then do the breakin service.

Me too. Get more of the nasty initial stuff out before you let the car keep oil for the next interval (which will be long if you don't do it yourself)

Agree. Get it as close to 1200 miles
to make sure you get as much break in as you can.

My dealer pretty much told me to wait until I hit 1200 to do the service, so I echo what others are saying. I ended up doing it just below that threshold, as I was at 1190 or so miles and it fit my schedule to do it at that time.

Any time between 1000 and 1400 miles is likely to be fine. 400 miles...no. Strange that iDrive is calling for it, but the dealer should know better.

They did the service before my CA could stop them... how hard will it be to get them to do it again in 800 miles?

I would make them do it again closer to 1200 miles as bmw recommends. The service advisors are too dumb to realize the service shows recommend by the key data even at 1 mile when the car is brand new since bmw has a 2000 mile pull ahead for service. There is a mileage the car needs to be at to do the service, it should be in their warranty operations manual.
If they push back, call bmw customer relations and explain how they screwed up.

My dealer said they would not do it with less than 650 miles.

Hi guys, my question is similar: I am at 1850km and today I took the appointment for the final break-in check for the 4th of July. If I had to reach 2500km there is no problem, right? In the end it's just a little more break-in...

Seems odd that iDrive is saying it's due now (unless it's saying it's due in 800 miles).

What’s the break in service cost? Is it just engine and diff oil change?

I’m looking at a few used M2C and one has 900 miles. Probably not serviced.

And.... is there a rule the dealer has to do this. I have a great Indy shop and I also am a mechanic myself. Very easy job

BMW would have standing to deny your warranty if you don't have them do the 1200 mile service, it's the most important one. Also, BMW can't CPO it down the road. But I don't think you hurt anything necessarily by doing it yourself. Just know some buyers won't buy used if the service isn't in the service history. If they are selling it at 900 miles, they likely have already done it, or you can make it a condition of the sale.

I just took delivery on mine and the yellow check engine light on the left side of the instrument panel was/is on at time of delivery. iDrive says to do 1,200 mile service. Dealer told me it stays on until you do 1,200 mile service. Wait for then. Enjoy the light!

It is a no cost service. Have a dealer of your choice do it post delivery. BMW will not complete the service before 800-900 miles; I cannot recall exactly but in that range. Do the rest of the services yourself.
