2nd service?

When are you folks doing the service after the break-in one? Is it 5k miles? ...10k miles? ...or is it a certain number of months?

(I'm currently at 1 year and 4200 miles)

Should be 10k or 12 months, whichever comes first. your iDrive should tell you

As stated, the 2nd service is at 10k miles or 12 months (based on build date) and your iDrive will tell you when it's due. The break-in service has no effect on this service (unless you are like me and happen to have both become due at the same time).

I could've sworn that I've heard of people doing it at 5k miles though? Are they just being extra cautious?

So, even though I have less than 5k miles, I should still get the service do e because I'm at a year? ...or literally just wait until my idrive tells me to?

I did it at 5K, DIY and do not reset the oil interval on the idrive. If you drive your car hard, I would do it at every 5K. Cheap insurance.

I'm about to do my oil change this weekend. First DIY on the car and my car has 3k miles. A little premature but excited to work on the car!

people doing it at 5k prior hitting the 12 month are being extra cautious.

If you have less than 5k you should still get it when the 12 month reminder tells you to because it is free (assuming you bought it new), I believe it's a requirement to maintain the warranty and it'll look good in the service history when you trade/sell it .

Is it a straight forward oil change? No ECU in the oil filter that needs calibrated prior to initial startup?

As others said, the car should give a reminder at one year, regardless of when you had the 1200-mile break-in service done. I had the break-in service done exactly at the six month mark, and I wasn't sure at the time if it would want the next service 12 months after that point or 6 months later (i.e., at one year from delivery); of course it was the latter, a mere six month later, with even fewer miles than you (about 3900). Ridiculous, but free, so I took it in, made the car happy, and rolled on.

I did the break in service right around 1200, I got the oil change done since I just hit a year but I had about 3750 miles on there.

I asked BMW & they said just bring it in when the Idrive says so,which is still the above date... I'm on 10k+ & it is 14 months old...

Worth getting the oil change now?

Don't know what CBS for UK is. For US it's 10k miles or 12mo, and if CBS doesn't notify you can just bring it in to get the oil changed, no questions asked. It's covered under maintenance for US.

UK's intervals are longer than US's, I believe your fuel quality may play a role in that but nonetheless I wouldn't want to run nearly 20k miles on an oil change.

Just got a call from the dealer on my 2nd service. I'm at 9K miles and it happened when iDrive hit 1,000 miles to service. I'll probably take it in in a few weeks as I'm usually around 200 miles/week.
