Motor Trend 2019 Best Driver's Car Rankings For M2 Competition and M850i
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Motor Trend overall ranking: Link: https://www.motortrend.com/news/2019...-car-rankings/ 1. Porsche 911 Carrera S 2. Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 3. BMW M2 Competition Frolicky, pointy, planted, and confident, this is the perfect first-timer's track car. You can tailor throttle response, shift firmness, and steering feel. The Bimmer prefers fast sweepers to tight twisties, but it can live all day at the on-limit nirvana. It's down on power compared to the competition, and it's oddly slower than the Supra at Laguna Seca.4. Jaguar XE SV Project 8 5. McLaren Senna 6. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 7. Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 8. Bentley Continental GT V8 9. Lamborghini Urus 10. BMW M850i XDrive Coupe The Bimmer delivers a great engine note, it drives small for a big car, and it has fantastic predictability around Laguna Seca. But its steering feel is distant and synthetic, the suspension sometimes struggles to keep pace with the engine's performance, and the agility afforded by the rear-steer system makes the back end twitchy.11. Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye 12. Toyota GR Supra Randy Pobst's personal rankings: Link: https://www.motortrend.com/news/rand...vers-car-2019/ 1. Porsche 911 Carrera S 2. McLaren Senna 3. Ford Mustang Shelby GT 350 4. BMW M2 Competition 5. BMW M850i XDrive Coupe 6. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4Matic+ 7. Jaguar XE SV Project 8 8. Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 9. Toyota GR Supra 10. Bentley Continental GT V8 11. Lamborghini Urus 12. Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Pobst's lap in the M2 Competition:

I'm surprised the M850i is that high.

It's faster than the other 2 in a straight line & should be pretty close around a track to the 350. Should spank the Supra with a proper driver.

Randy knows his stuff and works directly with OEM's on vehicle dynamics, I trust what he says and his feedback in this case seems spot on.
The M2C front and rear are connected in a beautiful way that allows the car to "dance." Having a 2018 GT350 also, I have often complained about the midcorner oversteer out of nowhere- I usually think it's my fault, looks like they were able to iron that out on the 2019's.

Its difficult for me to get past the automatic only transmission, the lack of special motor (standard B series), & the non-functional scoops and vents all over the place. The biggest gripe that i have is that the FT-1 concept was so sweet looking and then we get this bloated looking Z4. I would take a Cayman with a 6 speed or one with the PDK over the A90 Supra. There is that price difference though...

Motor Trends quality is way down this year. H2H's have pretty much sucked and Best Drivers Car is average at best.
Johnny and Jethro are good - it's the production and probably the editor in chief Ed Loh leading it too busy on their Insta feeds. |

Fixed that for you.... An AT only Supra is an insult to enthusiasts IMO. I realize the writing is on the wall, but if Toyota and BMW are not going to offer a MT option in the last car segment where it makes sense from a business and/or marketing perspective, I...I...well I'm not sure what, except buy something else.

Finished 3rd overall. Respectable I'd say considering the competition. |
