please... tell me the " real question" ... and I'll be SURE to address it..

Again... just because people WANT something... doesn't mean they have an understanding of what it takes to make it happen.

I want more variety in colors too... but I have an UNDERSTANDING of how that factory works and am saying it's not as easy as it seems.

the bottom line is... BMW did pick a new color for that factory ... and a lot of people are whining about what they want instead.

We can't always get what we want..

Sorry - couldn't resist a little Rolling Stones levity in the conversation.

Let's be clear on one thing. You guys want more colors? Tough. Not going to happen even if you want to cry about it.

You guys want this thing to be unveiled early because you are bored? Tough.

You guys want this car to have an S engine, CF roof, rear air vents but still be $45k. Tough.

We can bitch and moan for 8 pages but where are we now?

My M235i has rear interior vents. I'm sure the M2 will have them too

Not sure if that was sarcastic or not, but I was talking about the ones on the bodyside like the GT6 Concept...

Watch out... People will say you are just on here ranting ...

God forbid you actually try and explain why some things aren't going to occur or are difficult..

you know.. like how many shifts are operating.. plant capacity... mundane things like the fact that different colors of exterior paint require a different base coat..... the fact that the paint booth sprays dried paint that has a charge on it... and that all the dried substrate that doesn't hit the vehicle is actually collected again.. etc.. Which means that the ENTIRE booth has to be cleared before switching colors.. you know... actual technical stuff.. lol..

It was sarcastic. One day they will invent a better way to convey internet sarcasm.

For the record, I agree with all your positions, but I have reserved the right to still hope for a CF roof.

Don't get worked up, forum fellows.
The real reason why the M2 gets LBB: a bean counter at BMW massively mixed up, by mistake, figures when ordering a batch of LBB paint for the whole X5M production. And so the X5M, X6M and the M2 get it.

Just over five years ago, Dackelone went on a Leipzig factory tour and counted 39 colours on the wall.

^^Thanks for that awesome post! Yes, Leipzig can make any color they choose too. But its all based on what is selling at the moment. Leipzig can not do Individual color cars. Just as Spartanburg, SC and Rosslyn, South Africa - both can not do Individual colors. Every other plant BMW has can do Individual colors.

Btw... here is a link to my Leipzig plant writeup. I've visited the factory three times. But its been a few years since my last visit. I ought to look into another visit soon. Maybe once we get closer to the M2 SOP(start of production).

(ie... NOT 1 series models.. when I was there... IIRC there were some protection models etc.)

The changeovers that they were doing along with running at max capacity were already causing the PAINT BOOTH to run three shifts....

Believe it or not guys... the paint process IS the bottle neck on vehicle production.. it's about the only place on the line where the car isn't moving...

Yes, the paint process is the longest part of the car production process. But that is also why at Leipzig and at Regensburg - BMW AG has special holding room, where finished painted chassis are held in. I saw this room on my tour of Regensburg(1er/2er/3er & Z4). BMW can hold about 800 cars in this "storage room". A robot picks up finished(painted cars) to start final assembly.

At Leipzig we could not tour the paint shop... we could only see the paint process via thru thick glass side rooms(to watch the robots at work with human supervision). We also could see final inspection of painted cars - before they move onto the next step in the build process.

It's also interesting to note, that BMW puts no pressure (or time limits)on the guys who have the last word - on when a car's paint is ready for final assembly. The people who polish and fix paint defects can spend as much time on a single car - as needed.

The ride height and wheel gap look good in my opinion. I'm not a big fan of cars sitting low enough that the tires are tucking into the fenders.

Nope, definitely don't want that either. I'd want somewhere in between.

If the M2 has a carbon fiber roof, then that's it. M235i for me.

Because I absolutely require a sunroof or moonroof. Must. Have.
But losing the CF roof panel would just be wrong.
So I could never drive an M2 and be happy.

/sarcasm (except for the sunroof / moonroof requirement part)
