New MPE exhaust options

Hi guys just had fitted today the new revised MPE exhaust for my M2

The sound is insane and I am very happy

The question I have is can you have the Bluetooth controller open and shut the valve without pushing the new red button located in the boot ?

They made a red wired button instead of the rocker switch at the module, you have to turn it on each time you drive the car to enable BT controller functionality.
Guys in german forum are bemoaning this also.

Are we 100% sure you have to switch it on every time you start the car?

I don't understand the point of this... what advantage does this new setup have over the previous one?

My car will have the MPE installed from port, I'm really annoyed by this... It makes no sense

Hope this isn't the case. I am hoping I can just open the valve 1x for the car and never close it again.

If this is yet another stupid move by BMW, I am going to scream. First the car does not "memorize" which driving mode it is in, then the rev matching, which cannot be shut off, and now I may have to open the boot each time I get in to switch on the Bluetooth to have the exhaust open/close the valves?

So here are the pictures of the red button taken from the 2er forum

One of the pictures is a guy suggesting extending/modifying the red button cable (second picture)

Another suggestion is using the old MPE module but obviously you would need to find it

If anyone knows what cable to buy to extend the button it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys i dont understand i have the old MPE on my car and was intresting/following the updated MPE from BMW in order to solve the vibration issue in cold start. To be honest the vibratio only lasts 3-4 seconds max but if there was a quick fix i woul be intrested. You say in the news version there is a button you need to press to enable the bluetoogh controler but that is not new that was also the case on my old MPE version you need to press a button on the module in the tranck to activate the system and then control it with the remote , since i bought the car new i only pressed that button once and it stays open even if you lock the car and the control the valves from the remote so what changed ?

What 'apparently' changed is that the same button does not stay on permanently like the old one did.

In your case, you could get the revised exhaust and keep the old module/electronics.

And what does 'revised' mean. I have the old MPE, it's the best oem addon I think, but I don't want to press buttons/pull switches in the boot/trunk every time i drive my car,... I'm not Jim Lovell/ Jack Swigert, but if this is the case, Munich has a problem

My cold start vibration takes 10-15 seconds and it actually got worse(the noise, rattle). I will go to my dealer to have them take a look at it in a few weeks.

Cheers
Robin

Sorry guys so yes i had the exhaust fitted and have this red button in the boot that i have to push once the engine has been started before the bluetooth controller will work .

I will try and get some pics up

The other thing to note is that the exhaust still has a vibration on the tailpipe tips on cold start nothing too dramatic but for sure it is still there

Wow! That's just insane. I am getting the old MPE before it goes out of stock.

Despite this red button and the vibration the exhaust sounds insane .

It is super loud on track mode and understand why BMW set up this process of going into the boot to activate

Finally I am getting a drone at 3000rpm

Running a fabspeed DP also

How do you know it's sounds insane due to exhaust? Maybe it's the downpipe?

Had my 2017 MPE fitted also by BMW dealer a few days ago. I can't quite work out what's going on as you get BOTH sets of instructions in the Bluetooth Controller box - one showing red button, one showing without. The instructions show two different retrofit kit numbers and the official BMW instructions clearly show the retro kit no.18302454297 - to be red button installation only.
From this, I would assume you have the choice to either install with or without the red button.
Although, I have been in contact with the OP and that install was done via independent / not BMW and independent was unable to get the module to respond without installation of the red button??
All very odd and yes, it's a right PITA.
