I do not expect the next CS to be launched until the introduction of the M4 CS to the market. Breathing and establishing space is important and BMW will be having maximum focus on the M4 CS.
^^translation... we will first see the M4 CS at Frankfurt in September this fall, then the M2 CS at Geneva next year. Just a hunch, but...

We first saw the M4 CS at Shanghai last month. What am I missing in you post?

Really? The ZCP seem to be more of an upgrade from base than the CS. Other than 10hp and cosmetic what makes the CS special? Tires?

The M2CS seems much more interesting with mystery engine and more of an upgrade since no zcp package.

The M2 CS is scheduled for production starting from 03/18. Going by that timeline and fitting the M4 CS timeline (Unveil and production start), the official unveil must be earlier than Geneva right ?? It should be towards the end of 2017.

Also, haven't seen test mules of the M2 CS for a while now. If they were still testing, I thought we would've seen a lot more of the test mules by now.

I think that the BMWs test mule game is as formidable as their camo game. By the time people realize it ..usually way late

So the next step for the M2 is the M2 CS. Going by this theory, there should be one more step for the M4 before the M2 CSL/GTS.

What's that step for the M4 ?

BMW may not want to have a bunch of badass M2 test mules running around right before people can order the expensive M4 CS.

Tweaking any final aero, and suspension adjustments won't take that long.

How early was the M4 GTS spied before official release?

As BMW aim to showcase that each level will certainly display varying talents.
Just as the standard M4 is given further improvement with the Competition Packet and the M4 GTS receiving split deciding complex technology over the latter.
Then the M4 CS has to offer some appreciative level to stand out further. As it is said its a GTS without the complexity. So it will showcase its own formidable talent. The M2 CS will offer the more radical genetics but the standard M2 is not just a good car. It's a phenomenal car.

How would you label BMW's segmented talents?

May 2017 Nürburgring M2 test sessions are ongoing:
  • May 7, 2017 (Nürburgring - Germany): here (00:50) (S55 engine sound)
  • May 9, 2017 (Nürburgring - Germany): here (00:52) (S55 engine sound)

Bring it on. Make it M-DCT and it will be "the faster M2". Make it manual transmission and it will be "an instant classic" generating high demand among car enthusiasts and frustration among the competition. Actually, the M2 CS doesn't need to be as quick as the M4 CS around the race-track. What matters in the end: Freude am Fahren taken to the next level.

Well the new M5 begins a new era for BMW M. Which it all begins next week.
The CS cars offer more exclusivity to the more enthused customer.
The first X3M and X4M respond to the further requirements of customers especially in the US.
The next generation of Coupe models beginning with the M8 again will be offered with staged further development and creativity. With the aim to provide a razors edge between Motorsport and road going attributes.

Will we see a Competition Packet for the M2?

What about CS(L) cars for the 6MT enthused customer?

Why was this market totally ignored?

Hmm...not too inspiring at this stage...frankly now I am now more eager for news on the next GT4 and Spyder as they will have a 6MT

No wonder prices on the 1M had appreciated in the last few months

Whoever thought of the no 6MT option on the CS range basically handed free money to Porsche

I wonder if the plan is to remove the different performance packages all together, and replace them with a model line. No more ZCP. By reducing the total number of available higher performance cars. The new models become artificially more special. They won't be limited, but you may not get one the year you want one.
