Is it me or does Carbon Black metallic look like Tanzanite 2?

I was watching youtube videos of both colors on cars in sunlight and they look almost the same. I hear the Tanzanite Blue 2 while being gorgeous is a terrible color to have as it leaves swirlies after getting the car washed.

Carbon black is a weird color. I think it looks blue as well. First time I saw it I thought it was tanzanite.

Carbon black looks almost like a dark dark navy but definitely leans on the black side in the dark, while TB2 is defintiely more blue. They are both going to take the same amount of upkeep to keep the dirt and swirls at bay.

They are very different. Tanzanite always looks blue, although different blue in different light. Carbon looks more black with a blue tint to it.

Both are going to show swirls from a car wash.

My 135i is carbon black. I agree it's got a bluish hue in certain lighting and looks black in the dark. As to swirls and scratches, I've had some but it's not outrageous. Car still looks factory new.

Whats the best bmw colors for least upkeep?

My i8 roadster was ecopper and always looked clean.

Now my Marina Bay Blue X6M looks dirty half a day from a handwash

Carbon Black is similar actually, though a bit darker. It's an older paint and has far less metallic flake and pop though. I really don't recommend anyone order Carbon Black anymore. Tanzanite Blue II, Azurite Black, Jerez Black, and Imperial Blue Metallic all offer similar shades but with more pop.

You either don't have them or may want to schedule an appointment with your optometrist, lol. Dark blue shows swirls second to only black. You can see swirls on any color though, so I never understood using it as an excuse to not buy what you want.

If you're mainly worried about upkeep, stick to the whites, silver, and grays. A little more boring, but easier to keep clean and they hide any marring in the paint much better.

I think it varies. Carbon Black is sometimes a standard paint. It might have been free on an M3 50 Jahre. Tanzanite is always the cheaper Individual. Azurite is always a more expensive Individual I think. Imperial Blue was a normal paint on F10 for a while. Jerez Black was only on the E92 M3 as far as I can remember, standard paint.

Of all these, I like Tanzanite best. Imperial Blue close 2nd if you want even more blue.

Not at all. My dad's G05 is Tanzanite Blue II. I have a Carbon Black one. Very different colors.

And I don't get the whole "terrible color and it will swirl easily". Any color will swirl if you don't take the time to properly wash and dry it.

-Power spray first.
-Wash after foaming car, no bucket
-Wash each panel with different side of micro fiber towel, moving towel with linear strokes.
-Blow dry with air cannon, may have to blot a few spots, usually drips and some runoffs.
-Wax, or whatever of choice, applying/removing with linear strokes.
Linear strokes: yes you will get some fine linear scratches but no swirls. Swirl scratches you can see from all angles. Linear scratches are much less noticeable, visible at certain angles, like polarized light- polarized sunglasses.
Ergo, after wax or whatever, everything being equal, nothing touches the paint except when washing and no buckets are used and new clean towel washing surface for every panel.
Takes me about 45 minutes (not waxing). Seriously, try it as it really makes a difference, I've been doing it this way for 40 years. (Call me old and I'll hit you with my cane)

Right, so you don't have serious swirls, just minor horizontal or vertical marks. Sounds good to me, but if you had them they would be visible .

Hello There. I have both in the driveway. When the sunlight hits Tanzanite the silver brilliance undertones comes to light and can be seen without being close to the car. With Carbon black it is more of a combination of Navy Blue and black. Noticing of the Navy blue hues apparent only when closer to the car. When both cars are parked next to each other Carbon Black looks darker than the Tanzanite. Both are a labor of love to keep clean. But when they are clean they are spectacular. I avoid swirls as they are only hand wash - lol

Best Color I ever had to hide dirt was Glacier Silver Metallic. Especially in the winter. The salt and dirt would blend in.

I agree. I had a 335i sport sedan and a 340i sedan msport in Glacier Silver both with oyster interior. Loved it. Your 6 must have looked spectacular in that color.

Agree. My F80 ZCP was Azurite Black and it was a stunner! It reminded me of an Acura color from ages ago, Nighthawk Black Pearl except with more pizazz.

Definitely Navy

I have the sapphire black and my brother has the Carbon "black". When parked next to each other the Carbon is clearly Dark Navy. Not sure why they don't just change the name of it.
