Are you referring to the 4 banger?

And you get BMW's familiar modern twin-scroll turbo four, here rated at 255 horsepower 295 lb-ft of torque. This motor sees duty in the 330i and a bunch of other cars, and it happens to be quite good; all of BMW's crazy powerful M engines steal the spotlight, but this is a solidly potent engine that offers tons of everyday fun. Those weight savings are nice, too.,

No, I was referring to the highest-tier Supra coming with the M340i B58 motor..

I don't even acknowledge the 4 cylinder anything, in my thought process, so I didn't mention it.

That's correct: (also) the G87 M2 gets the S58 engine.

B58/S58 and the future G87 M2/M2C (2023): hm, N55/S55 of F87 M2/M2C déjà-vu likelihood or straightaway a detuned S58 of the G80 M3 / G82 M4 ?
I strongly suspect they’ll use the S58 in the G87 from the start because it allows them to go to a single I6 + 6MT configuration that covers everything. In fact, the business case for keeping the manual M cars for a (presumably) final generation was likely built around sharing the same engine/transmission across the three (M2/M3/M4) vehicle programs.
Dedicated thread: see here ("Will the G87 (next gen M2) be powered by a B58 or S58 engine ?").

Damn, no wonder things are going electric so quickly. This a modern day emissions motor. Good going BMW for being able to produce this engine with all the constraints in place. It must make things significantly more costly and complex.

If they somehow don't increase the size of the car, the next M2 should be an absolute beast

  • September 2018: exit N55 powered M2 LCI + enter S55 powered M2C (tightened emissions regulations in Europe);
  • Fall 2020: end of production S55 powered M2C for Europe (tightened emissions regulations in Europe);
  • June 2021: end of production S55 powered M2C;
  • November 2020: start of production G80 M3/M3C + G82 M4/M4C (see here);
  • December 2022: G87 M2 start of production (EOP: March 2029) (see here).
By retiring the popular M2C in Europe already this Fall, the G80 M3 and G82 M4 will enjoy full 'breathing space' in Europe as 'entrance BMW M model' for about two years (if we leave ///M iterations of BMW X models out of the equation).

Does all this mean no S55 M2 CS for Europe?

I'm guessing the M2 CS will be sold out before the end of production for Europe.

About the S58:
Did I miss something on the S58 for the G87? Thought other than conjecture we still don't know if it'll get the B58 or S58 and as far as I'm aware none of the reliable insiders that we've counted on over the years have shed any light on this either. Don't get me wrong, the S58 would be welcomed news, but don't want to get hopes up.

Yes, there was a front page thread that confirmed that it will come with a detuned S58, RWD only and a manual option but I can't seem to find it to link.

So you're just going to have to take our word

Found the front page thread you mentioned. It was posted right at the start of the pandemic which explains how I totally missed it. The G87 with S58 will be a monster with tunes.

will the phase out of the S55 make it a more desirable car years from now since later cars -G87- with more emissions regulations keeps it more detuned?

The S58 is already making 503hp in the X3/4 M Competition so they have plenty of headroom to tune up the G87 for a Competition model as well as other variants. The S58 doesn't have the crank hub issue which means it's a tuners dream.

but supposedly any s58 M2 will be heavier as well. Even more electronic components as well. No wonder Supra said let's go with bmw too many environmental demands and emissions requirements lately.

I am not 100 procent certain we get a new m2 with b58 or s58 engine.

The new m5 in 2024 wil go electric.

If this is the case with the new m2 also i am done buying new cars. I keep my Ice engined cars forever!

There's also gonna be a hybrid M5 that will use the same set up and the X8M.

The new Z4 weighs 3,457 lbs and the Supra is about 60 lbs less than that. They're not the same platform as the current M2c, but they are built off the CLAR platform which is the same platform the next G87 will be based off of. Once the G8x M3/4 come out later this year we can start to get a better idea for weight as they too will be based off the CLAR platform which is lighter than the outgoing F series cars. When the new G42 2 series comes out next year we'll get an even better idea for the weight of the G87.

You don't say, here in the Netherlands it's 30k€ taxes for an M2C on top of the 21% VAT 😂

That is outrageous. How politically can they get away with charging that on their own citizens??

I am of this mind thought when I purchased my M2C. I skipped my normal P-car for a more drivers/organic car. To me, speed at this point is going to be irrelevant as we already have more than enough hp but having all your senses come alive when driving is really becoming a rarity. Anyone can make a implement of speed and the writing was on the wall with electric hyper cars of speed. I believe BMW knows it has to produce a hyper electric car. I am surprised it wasn’t first introduced in a car like the i8 with 1001 hp but pretty sure “M“ will eventually = electric high performance cars.
