Getting tired of people trying to race me...
Is it just me, or has it gotten worse as of late?
Haven’t had this much attention from street racers in my previous cars, not much so in my M2C last year but it has gotten much worse the past few months. People starting to recognize the M2 all of a sudden? Pandemic driving them mad? Cars include: - M4 - Golf R - 335i - 370Z - a freakin’ single cab Silverado! I have to slow down and let them lose interest... Not a big deal but it gets old after a while. Sorry, just a rant. |

Don’t take it personal as it’s pretty normal. This was a common occurrence with my last C4S. Every jacknut driving a pickup to a Corvette wanted to race. Slowing down sometimes just aggravated it more as the rednecks in the 20 year old pickups would try to follow as close as possible. What I find different with my M2C is more people want to come up and talk about the car and ask questions when getting gas. It gets rockstar treatment. The GTI kids about lose their minds. The Porsche getting gas most everyone was standoffish.
I have owned a lot of performance cars besides decades of 911’s and found the Porsche seems to bring out the worst in other drivers. |

Pandemic. With nothing to do, at least car nuts are out in full force getting a drive in. And its easy to notice another nice car to have some joy with, so yeah, plenty of this out there. I also see a lot of supercars on the road these days as finally they have a chance to get out without traffic and zip around. I hear loud cars whiz by all evening on nearby streets.
The last few days I've had the windows fully down while driving, and have received compliments from people in parking lots, bike riders, etc. Maybe my M2 is no longer lost in a sea of BMWs |

My wife used to have a Mazda Speed 3.
The whole "people trying to race her" was one of the biggest reasons she sold it-- she was tired of constantly having people (most of them younger kids) aggressively want to race her when she was on her way to/from school or work. Maybe it was her fault for liking to drive a "boy racer", but it got old fast-- I don't think a week would go by without her having someone driving like an idiot next to her trying to get her to go "zoom zoom"-- and some of them were fairly intense about it, which was a little scary for a female just minding her own business. It got so bad here in Denver that we sold it and got her an Acura RDX SUV instead. That solved the problem-- right up until she couldn't stand not having a sporty MT car, so now she has the RDX *and* a Miata RF (MT). She's happy now, and people don't seem to want to race the RF, so I guess it all worked out. R. |

I had to go into work on Friday afternoon, and as usual, when I made my way around a particular nice, 4 lane S Curve I passed a more normal car. I wasn't going that fast...I was enjoying a casual drive with some good music. It was 4 or so year-old Mazda 3, and as soon as I passed him he hit his gas. If he had done this earlier in the curves, he might have lost it 'cause I saw him fighting some serious under-steer.
Coming OUT of this curve, there's a little road that cops like to sit in about 3/4 of mile down. I've seen a cop there on every drive during the pandemic. I let the little Mazda pass me. He just kept on it and I think he was going about 80 or 90 when the cop hit him with radar. I turned before he actually stopped for the cop. The cars that seem to behave this way are, almost entirely, STi's and down. Most folk in faster or more expensive cars seem to just want to hang out together so that we can enjoy seeing each others' cars. Last edited by bri1042; 05-06-2020 at 06:29 AM.. |

Funny thing is, I don’t recall Mustangs or any other domestic sports cars challenging me.
I never street race, so I usually try to let these drivers pass me or give them a thumbs up so they can WOT away from me. Boy I wish this pandemic is over. |

And in my area, someone with a 335 tried to get at me on Yorba Linda Blvd. Both times they were girls!! woah Since i was feeling froggy i had to give them a go but i really need to stop. |

Yeah, I get this a lot. I just stay back to make them look dumb... Mostly tweens in Civics or older Mustangs.
I think there are some stats showing that street racing has increased due to the pandemic. If you ever get caught, just say you were trying to distance yourself from the other car. |

That makes sense. If you're in the fast lane and passing a few cars here and there's, there's someone bound to be like "oh he isn't passing me in my mazda, who does he think he is?!"

I am usually going a bit above speed limit (with traffic mostly). When some idiot tries to race, I do the slight throttle then slam on my brakes back to speed limit method (granted always ensuring no one is behind me as I'm not trying to brake check anyone) and let them fly past looking like an idiot. 8/10 times freaks them out causing them to slam on their brakes and swerve. I guess thinking I saw a cop?

Nothing here, I honestly think this is the most invisible car I have ever driven. Not even a second look from any of the modern muscle cars or other BMWs on the road around me.

Hahaha, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Racing on the street is silly and counterproductive. If it were a twisty road that would be one thing, but on a boring highway? Cmon, these dorks need a better life.
My most recent experience was a Ninja ZX-10. Cmon! I used to ride motorcycles and was always annoyed when cars or bikes tried to fool around. I got my kicks on the race track actually racing for real. A whole lot safer too.
