2018 M2 and Autonomous Braking

Was wondering if you folks know whether the 2018 M2 have an autonomous braking feature? Can't seem to find it in the owner's manual. Thanks.

In the manual, I believe the section titled "front-end collision warning with City Braking function" is what you are looking for. I'm looking at the PDF version but it's on page 126.

Can't speak for 18's but my 2020 doesn't have a true auto braking system. A red light will display in the instrument cluster at higher speeds as a warning. But my understanding is it will only stop the car without driver intervention at slow speeds. Only cars equipped with radar / dynamic cruise control will save your a$$. We don't have that. If collision avoidance isn't mentioned in your owners manual I doubt you have any protection so heads up!!!

My Vehicle > Vehicle Settings > Intelligent Safety > Collision Warning = (Early, Medium & Late) Options.

Yes, it's the same on both models. The system will warm of an imminent collision at speeds greater than 3 mph. However the automatic braking will only kick in at speeds of up to 35 mph. The braking is done with limited force and duration and if it can't stop it entirely the intention is then to reduce the speed at which the collision occurs.

Still don't know if I trust it. Been thinking of a test with empty card board box.

Nice, did it bring you to a complete stop or just warn?

I looked at the manual with Front-end collision warning with city braking function but it says

...the system will help reduce the collision speed
...automatic braking intervention is done with limited force and duration.

Then there's this part that says,

...the system sounds a warning before an imminent collision and actuates brakes independently, if needed. <- Does this mean the system will automatically brake for you if you didn't brake?

I'm still a little confused.

I saw the deer but it was really to late to react in time. Just thrilled not to have hit him, as well as not wrecking my car... I had cruise locked in at 35mph, but I definitely would have hit him. I watched as he continued to the other side... The brakes assisted me, but didn't stop me completely, but damn it was a super close call.

The system assisted me in braking.

Way before I was able to react.
