Winglet Function

Yo!

I'm contemplating getting a couple carbon fiber parts for my M2. What is the purpose of the 'Side skirt winglets'? Just for looks or do they do anything? Do they get beat up with rock chips or anything? They look cool af though for sure.

Thanks.

Just for looks.

None of the CF parts on the M2C will have any functional value. As far as rock chips, etc, I don't have the winglets, so can't answer.

I would definitely consider the CF rear spoiler and diffuser though..at least. I have both of these.

Whats that at the wheels, about 8-9?

Winglets look to be a hard pass so far. If they're not functional, it seems sort of pointless. They look so damn cool though. I want to do a couple track schools to see if putting the M2 on the track is something I'm interested in. Would the winglets buy street cred?

Diffuser is on the short list. Hey, you're in Vegas too? I've only seen one other M2C here, and it was at the shop doing the PPF. I think it was the white color.

They are just for looks. If you get the front carbon lip, the angle where the lip departs from the body on the side matches perfectly with the angle where the winglets depart from the body. The gap away from the body also matches. It is aesthetically well planned. It makes me feel tingly inside.

Front winglets are vortex generators. They create vortices that go down along side of the car to seal in the air underneath to create more down force. The winglets in the rear do the same thing but it's pointless in the back.

The dealer had already spec'd them in on my car. Wasn't a huge fan at first, but they've grown on me and I think they add some nice contrast to the look of the car. 8k miles and no noticeable rock chips

The winglets are functional. They smooth the air going past the wheels. Same function as the front and rear diffusers on our cars, which straight and smooth the air that passes under the car.

That being said, I noticed no difference. Getting milk still takes me 1.5 hrs.

Ha. I was just looking at those last night.

I am on two Waitlists for M2 CS, which has the similar front splitter shape.

Obviously those winglets are a personal selection, but I was trying to figure out the general perception about them. It is probably a love or hate thing, like Misano Blue...
