Rear fender stone guards removed
I couldn't stand it anymore and finally removed the factory clear stone guards from the rear fenders of my M2C. They were already getting some yellowish discoloration, and it was impossible to keep the leading edges of them clean. There was always a thin line of dirt around their edges no matter how clean I kept the car.
So I carefully peeled them off the other day. Unfortunately they left behind a lot of adhesive remnants, but I was able to get it all cleaned off with Bug 'n' Tar remover. Looks so much better now without them. I'll wash the car and wax/polish the area. Hopefully the rear fenders won't get completely sandblasted now. I don't plan on tracking this car, so that will help. Update to follow when I've put some miles on the car with it "naked."

Australia Car?
seriously though - yeah I hate the white line that's built up around mine - looks bad on a black car. |

That area is very prone to stone chip damage.
There’s a reason why they put that piece from the factory. I had the whole rear fender PPF’d and I already see quite a few stone chip marks on the PPF. YMMV |

Did the same-- removed the OEM, replaced with a larger piece which moved the cut lines and made them much less noticeable.
Our girl has wide hips-- as stated, that area is a chip magnet. Oh-- WD-40 works well to get the adhesive off as well. R. |

Don't run it naked. I had my rear quarter repainted and drove around with it naked for 10-20 miles, before my appointment with my xpel installer, and it left a ton of marks in it. Had to get it refinished again.

Thanks, all. Sounds like I’ll need to have PPF placed there, especially since switching to 265s up front.

First, as others have said, you NEED NEED NEED to get it replaced with something ASAP, as even a short drive will cause issues.
Second, if anyone else does this, do yourself a favor and get some PPG DX330 from your local automotive paint store. It's a bit expensive, but will take the adhesive off MUCH faster and easier than anything else. Soak a rag and wipe it on the area for a couple of minutes, then leave. Com back in 5 minutes and do it again. Wait another few minutes and the adhesive will come off super easy with your fingernail. DO THIS IN A VENTILATED AREA. P.S. Wheels/tires look fantastic |

My entire car is done in Xpel. The other day I notice I actually have a small tear in the passenger rear quarter, likely from a rock hitting it. And both quarters are pretty gritty feeling, from being blasted with pebbles over the years. I'm gonna wait a while to get it replaced. Although it has a lifetime warranty, my installer is a good friend of mine, and I feel bad if he has to replace it and not get paid for it.

If replacing with the original ones from the dealer,

as other have said, get something on there asap. I had the OEM peices removed and replaced with larger pieces along with some other PPF (full front + rockers). See the pic from my post :
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...postcount=1875 It extends from the door edge to the wheel arch. The OEM patch is ok except for the fact that it doesn't extend to the edges... Just be aware that walking into a PPF shop will result in an unexpectedly large expense

The PPF lines are darn near invisible, so at least this gives you an idea. I have the rocker panels done as well as a piece behind the rear wheel. Hope it helps..... R. |

I had mine done similar to flybigjet images above but extending all the way to the rear tail light and rear bumper along the body line. In addition, I did the rear bumper piece to the bumper line. I can’t tell it’s there at all.
