Getting Screwed!

So I called my SA to see what was up with ordering the car. I am #2 on the list with a $500 deposit. In the past she has been very good about keeping me in the loop. When I spoke with her she told me that they were definitely charging over sticker but they were waiting for the owner to come back from vacation, which will be sometime in February, to determine exactly how much over MSRP (WTF). As of now they only have one allocation. So I feel like I am getting screwed here.

Time to find a new dealer! To be honest, I think all of this is a little premature. So far all the allocations have been dealer demos, we haven't even gone into the real customer order allocations. To them their "first and only" allocation is the demo, that's the game they are playing.

There will definitely be more down the road. These dealers need to stop with the "this is as limited as the 1M" stuff and realize it's going to be produced for at least 4 years.

It's not going to be as plentiful as M3/4s but it's not going to be very scarce either.

Who ever pays a mark up will feel quite stupid, unless of course you have to be one of the first to get the car in that area.

Sure, there will be more produced than 1M's but you also have to remember that in a few countries all cars for the first 12-18 months are already sold out and the waiting list grows for each day. So unless BMW ramps up production it won't be so easy to get hold of a car...

I am going to look into another dealer. I am waiting for a call back as we speak. I hope that you are correct in the fact that these are dealer demos. I am not in a super hurry but I will be honest in saying that want the car sooner than later.

I have read through those threads and do see that situation, but there is no doubt BMW reserved more allocations for the NA market. How much more, it's too early to tell.

Of course there are more allocations but also a lot more demand. I would think that the ratio between demand/allocation is about the same in all countries.

Completely agree, this is what dealers are playing.

This is going to happen for the first cars that come in. Dealers will do it because they can and someone will pay. I can't stand this kind of stuff. I'm skipping the whole early allocation circus. MY 2017 is fine for me or I'll buy an F80 comp package and wait even longer...GL with your dealer.

Yeah, find another dealer. I am waiting just because i am not in a hurry but there is no way you should pay over msrp. It hurts us all when people agree to that nonsense. Dealers already make enough.

I heard from a few BMW sales mangers from the main "M selling dealers" in CA that the mark up will be anywhere from 5-15k, unless it's a corporate owned dealership which they're only allowed to have a max 10% mark up from MSRP.

I just spoke with another dealer and they told me that they are definitely not charging over sticker. I can get on his list but I be number 7. I will probably give them a deposit and see what happens with the first dealer. But I am definitely not paying over MSRP.

Here's the thing - you can order from any dealer and pick the car up in South Carolina via the performance delivery.

There ARE going to be dealers that sell right off the bat @ MSRP or below - ask someone like M3 Adjuster, he knows from experience with the 1M. It just takes some legwork and research.

If your local dealer is giving you the runaround, then just find a different dealer that wants your business. There will be plenty that fall into that category - I would suggest looking in the Midwest - I had good luck on that front generally speaking as well.

This. My dealer is MSRP so if you need a contact, let me know. Not sure how far down the list you will be but they are M certified so they should get a decent number of allocations.

Feel for you guys. My SA is a huge beauty - he didn't even mention upselling above MSRP when I bought the 1m. We sat down yesterday and agreed on a 1% discount off MSRP for the m2. He knocked off some of the fees as well - not much but it's something. There's people in line behind me as well.

Well I just gave another deposit where I was guaranteed MSRP. I'm number 7 on that list so not to bad. Hopefully people will drop out.

Good for you - glad to hear you found someone who wanted to work with you.

Try to be patient. you will get the car for sure now...just have to wait until they get to your spot in line...

Thanks. I'm definitely glad that I got another spot instead of waiting to hear from the first dealer on how much over sticker they are gonna charge. Now the wait begins again.
