Oil Pan Already seeping oil abit normal?
Hello everyone, today was the first time I dropped my belly pan to install my FTP charge pipe. After I dropped the pan I noticed there's a bit of oil on the oil pan from the gasket that slowly seeped down. There's no drops of oil just the oil pan is a bit greasy. Is this normal (2018 M2 with 10,000km/6,200 miles)? or should I get BMW warranty on this? I'm personally not very worried cause I heard of BMW seals before, just wanted to see if it should be seeping this early LOL.

Hmm weird for it to happen so early, I always heard issues with oil pan gaskets stemming from the n54 and early n55 but that was on high mileage cars. I thought BMW would have fixed the issue by now, especially since the m2 uses the s55 sump which should have been the latest evolution of this design.

Getting more common. Tell the dealer right before your warranty runs out.

Thanks for the input everyone Just curious is it a big job (same day service at the dealership)? from what I can tell you don’t need to drop subframe but I didn’t look that in-depth either.

I've seen people do this job without dropping the front subframe, it's part of the repairs if your front crank seal is breached due to the serpentine belt slipping or breaking. They usually do not have to drop the subframe.

I've heard of it done this way...but if its under warranty....dealer will mark up the labor on that invoice. So drop that frame! We all know dealerships make the bulk of their money on parts and labor. Either way our friend here doesn't need to worry...even if it took them a week, he should be supplied a loaner while they have it. |

Will do, I'll send them over the pictures and go from there, got a brake fluid booked anyways for September. Guess it's just bad luck LOL, this 2018 M2 I had the central head unit, both rear brakes, both rear rotors and both rear tail lights replaced already. Guess I'll add the oil pan gasket to the list LOL

2nd Oil Pan Gasket @34,200 miles
It is official, just had my winter wheels swapped to my summer wheels at the dealership and had them check for oil leaks, before I hit the 4 years warranty mark soon and for sure, the gasket replaced in October 2020 @27,400 miles had started leaking again. Supposedly they fitted an upgraded gasket this time, but after checking my old invoice, it is the very same BMW Part# 11-13-7-600-482. As this job involves dropping the sub-frame plus wheel alignment, I consider myself lucky, as the BMW dealership will easily charge $2,000+ for that job outside of warranty.

took my 2020 in yesterday (21k miles) to get my Summers put on. Dealer puts al service cars up on a rack for pre-inspection. They detected both an oil pan leak, as well as a rear differential leak. Both fixed under warranty, but crazy it happened this quick. Car was just in for last maintenance about a month ago (plugs/oil service) and there was no issues then, so obviously just happened.

Oil Pan Gasket Replacement DENIED under CPO Warranty
Same issue at 32k miles in my ‘18 LCI - oil seeping out of the pan gasket. Took it to my dealership and they refused to replace the oil pan seal under CPO Warranty... I only have a month left! The service manager: “We fix drips and leaks, not seeps.” Sounds like bs to me. Visiting another dealership for a second opinion.

I've got the same issues on my 2017 at 40k miles. Rear diff seals and oil pan seeping. Both Indy shop and dealership said not worth doing anything until I start seeing drips. Level seems to be holding for both. Seems like the consensus for waiting is because will likely happen again with replacements so might as well wait as long as possible to restart the clock.
