Child Car Seats

My 2.5y/o son really wants to ride in "dada racecar". I tried installing the Nuna from my M340i and I couldn't fit it past the front seat of the CS. I see several of you take your little guys on rides and I was wondering what fits and what won't make permanent indentations in the leather (like on my wife's X5). Thanks!

"Can we take the racecar to school today?!" - Believe me, I know this all too well.

With the front passenger seat all the way forward, you can fit the Graco Extend2Fit ( LINK ), in the rear facing position, quite well. Only downside is you have to come through the driver side to get them into the seat and buckled. But you get used to it.

Once my son was forward facing, I flipped the car seat around and was then able to bring the passenger seat back a few inches and get him into his seat/buckled through the passenger door. However, I will say that with his seat removed, there are certainly now indents on the back rest leather. And this is even with the use of a padded seat protector behind/underneath his seat. They may come out over time but can't say for sure. I think it's just part of the game, unfortunately.

Don't get me wrong, in either case, it's tight. My 5'2" 100lb wife isn't comfortable in the front passenger seat for anything more than short drives. And now with another little one in the mix, I'm sad to say that the M2 collects dust more than I wish it would, as I simply cannot fit both kids in the back and still drive comfortably.

That said, once they are old enough, I think the Chicco KidFit Zip Plus ( LINK ) would be the way to go, as it should give you back full room for the front seats. If I still have the M2 at that point, I'll certainly be getting these.

I'm in a weird spot because during his recent checkup his pediatrician told us, unprompted, that he's ready for forward facing; however, he's below the weight most car seat mfrs. recommend. We were thinking of keeping him rear facing in our normal cars but then doing forward facing in "dada racecar", either way I need a seat that fits.

The Graco Extend2Fit would work, size wise. Though definitely recommended to be rear facing for now.

That said, I've toyed with the idea of switching it to forward facing for my 2y/o, knowing that she'd only be in the car for the very short 25-30mph trips through the neighborhood to daycare and back.

However, the wife certainly doesn't love that idea. So

My Nuna Rava fits fine in place but it's about as big as you'll be able to get through the door

Where in NJ are you? I know with the closure of Buy Buy Baby there aren't many places with displays left but Bambi Baby in Paramus has an entire section for car seats and you can even pull your car into the rear of the showroom and find the perfect fit for your car/needs. As much as I like online shopping I've learned with stuff like car seats nothing will be as good as testing. Just last week I bought a car seat for a different platform that people said was a good fit and it took me 10 seconds to realize it didn't fit the way I wanted, with my seating position.

I use to run with Chicco myfit front facing convertibles… now both of my girls use Chicco gofit boosters. Both fit well.

Agreed on Nuna Rava barely fitting through the door - just tried yesterday as my 2.5 yr old keeps asking me to go for a ride and I feel like I’d drive a bit more if I could take her. Feel like there used to be a lot more slim / smaller options but guessing regulations have changed all that. I see some good onee but then go to the website and see its EU not US. So, I’m still in the market as well, will keep you posted with what I go with but def need something slimmer / less bulky than the Nuna from my truck…

OK, think I’m gonna kill two birds with one stone here…CS isn’t my daily so the mindset below only really applies if she’s a weekend warrior for you too.

Doing some traveling next year so we’ll be in the market for a travel seat eventually. So going to pay up and get this one, and just keep it in the bag in the trunk when not in use. Compact, good safety stats, and will serve a nice double purpose. Ain’t cheap, but I’ve learned with most of this kid stuff that you get what you pay for.

Gonna wait for some Black Friday sales to buy - will report back but looks promising!

Got the Pico today - seat and bag normally 500 but on sale right now for 400 on Amazon so jumped on it. Havent installed yet, but build quality is top notch. Super light, love the aluminum frame, and folds up to be quite small. Wouldn’t use as an every day solution, but seems perfect for my use case (occasional weekend drive and travel). Really impressed with this thing, will send some pics later when I get it in.

I have the Chicco KidFit ClearTex Plus in mine (on driver's side of rear seats) for my 11 y/o son and at about 6' with longer legs I am not compromised at all with legroom and he is good as well on space.
Sorry to hear about the M2 collecting dust. Is yours the one up for sale at Glen Shelly curiously? Seems to have all the mods your has (less the wrap).

It is, indeed. I had the wrap removed and full front PPFed back in August. I live just down the street from the owner of Glen Shelly and took him up on his offer to list it for me a couple weeks ago.

However, I've lost some sleep over it and recently begun reevaluating the idea of hanging onto it. Making it a point to get out and spend more time driving it over this next driving season. Alex (the owner of Glen Shelly) told me just to let him know if I want him to take the listing down and he'll gladly do so.

Anyway, that car seat looks like a great option. Bookmarking that as a potential future option, when my kids are bigger.

Test fit complete! Too cold today to take her for a drive (still have my summers on) but the dry run was a huge success haha. Quality is top notch, super slim/sleek, and very ergonomic for being such a minimal product. I like that they sit lower too, only a few inches off the actual seat, which feels a bit safer in such a small space. Locks into the LATCH system, so super easy install and adjustment. Again I wouldn’t use this in a daily, but it’s perfect for an occasional weekend warrior drive. Feels snug and safe - clearly not as tight as a full size car seat, but I also feel like there’s so much overkill there and this has all the essentials. Would definitely reccomend this product for anyone in my shoes - very occasional drive with the kid, some air travel, and tucked in the trunk otherwise. Expensive, but get what you pay for.

They look nice and I’ve seen them around the boards and internet. The only part I don’t like is that it sits so low that smaller kids can’t see out the windows. I agree that for the occasional trip, it’s great and storage is great compared to a traditional convertible or other full size front facing harness seat. It’s a game changer when they get into boosters! Enjoy!

Update on this: someone mentioned they were able to fit their Nuna Rava in the CS so I tried a bit harder and I was able to get it in there. Since it fits I've decided not to get a dedicated seat for the CS plus I don't want to leave anything installed 24/7 and make permanent indentations in the leather like both of our daily drivers.

Agree on the indentations - I’ll happily add a little setup / breakdown time to avoid that!

And agree on them sitting low in the Pico - not ideal with lack of window but as I said above given how tight it is back there it actually felt a bit safer / less cramped. Just my two cents.

Yeah, these come up a ton on 911 forums, I have one in each of mine. They do sit low so my little one definitely cannot see anything outside the windows but it fits in much smaller seats, can store if needed and it is definitely a well made seat. My older is in a booster and truly a night and day difference.

Definitely recommend the WayB for when it fits the bill for a small seat or travel. But in a car that fits a full size, I'd probably go with a full size, especially if it is a car your kid will fall asleep in. WayB's don't really do sleep too well for little ones.
