Yesterday while blasting up to a BMWCCA event, I couldn't help but wonder how much differently the car would ride, steer & handle if it had the "normal" brakes that come standard in other markets, with their much lighter/smaller mass, and 763M's that are much lighter than the stock 788's. That's a buttload of unsprung weight shaved away. The monster Brembo 2NH brakes are impressive but mass overkill for the street especially. Times have really changed - wasn't that long ago that M cars were notoriously under-braked. Not the M2c.

Ah Patterson Pass road. A hidden gem, wish it were longer. Taking it out to the 5 and Diablo Canyon road back is a great loop.

Purchased my 2020 Competition in Hockenheim couple weeks ago. Very fun car to drive. I got the DCT as i ordered my Emira in manual. Traction is an issue in cold weather as i daily drive, however i can tell the handling is so on point. Mid range power is absolutely awesome. No turbo lag. Car came out of the factory with M performance exhaust so it sounds great. Stiff ride as expected. Overall great pocket rocket, i am loving it.

My understanding is that the exhaust (and heat shield) needs to come down in order to access the shifter from below and swap out. My experience with jpipe and mid pipe swaps with a floor jack has not been favorable so I'd rate the shifter install a 6/10 because of that alone. If you had access to a lift it could be much easier.

I had mine done at a local speed shop along with the Ultimate Clutch Pedal (an easy DIY), E90 slave cylinder swap, and MP pedal covers (also an easy DIY) while they were swapping in the Akrapovic system. The shifter itself was about 1-2hours, exhaust disassembly/reassembly was 2 hours. At Boston rates that was about $540 for the shifter and exhaust.

It's not that it's difficult but more that it is tedious due to so many parts coming off and back on.

After:

- KW V3+ coilovers
- Aftermarket exhaust
- Carbon bits especially the Diffusor
- ASD delete via harness

Almost perfect car…I daily it and never get bored.

One gripe is the locked ECU as I have a late 2021 model, planning on flashing a spare DME if it isn't cracked in the near future though.

At about a year and love everything about it but the squeaking brakes. Which are almost unbearable. Still. No matter what I do.

I strongly feel the difference in handling/ride between the OG and M2C is largely due to those brakes. I'm aware of the strut brace and such, but as you said that's a lot of added unsprung weight!

Having put between 25-30k on both platforms, the OG really felt more willing to turn in. I would experience those "polar" moments, where the car felt like it rotated around me in a turn, more often in the OG. I obviously still get that in the M2C. It's not night and day difference let's be real, but noticeable if you send enough time in both.

I have considered swapping to AP Racing or the OG blue brake for this reason, but haven't got there yet…

Edit: To answer the original post: both the OG and M2C have been great cars to own and operate! I would buy again, and did when my OG was totaled by a drunk. Started shopping for another OG, but was offered a good price on a C as the pandemic set in. No regrets all around!

Just over two years in?

Love it.

Love the brakes (admittedly, I track it).

The only niggle?

The tiny fuel tank. I have to carry two spare tanks to the track nowadays- this thing just BEGS to be flooded at WOT.

3 weeks in. Coming from a ford truck. But previous had an n54 135 n55 m240 and b58 x3.

Love it. Love the power look. It’s hard not to state. And the feel. It has so much control it feels like I control the road. Only issues. I could use more power. Maybe a tune. And not the best audio system. Need an upgrade.

Have had mine for a month or so now and its been amazing! Have been driving my Tacoma exclusively for 2 years now so feels great to be back in a BMW. Smiles per gallon are pretty high. Only negative thing I can think of is the brake squeal, and amount of brake dust haha.

Been driving mine for about a month now! My dream car growing up was always the M3, specifically E46 and E9X. Then they started getting bigger and little less appealing to me. The first M2 came out while I was in college and I knew that that was the car to have. Super happy and thankful that I have one now!

A little over 2 years in and it's still just as exciting to jump in the car as it was in the beginning.

It continues to look stunning, I think. I love looking back at it.

Summer started frustratingly late here in Seattle but now im looking forward to taking it out more on some weekend drives. Love this car!!

Attached is a mini celebration of the car on its second "birthday" 🤣

Im 4 months in and enjoying it much more than i thought, I had an M4 a few years ago and didn't like the size, but ive really bonded with the M2C

Added some bit like a CS splitter, Flow through M performance wing and alcantara interior. Loving seeing it come together!

Its a poor excuse for an upgraded sound system.

Almost 1 year in, and my love for this car is still very high. Even compared to other M cars I currently own and the ones I've driven, I think the F87C is my top 2 favorite.

I originally bought it as a hold over until G87 is widely available knowing that the F87 might end up being a keeper. At the moment, I don't see how I could sell it.

I think it's also absolutely perfect looking.

Curious, what other M car do you hold as #1? I also likely couldn’t decide between my e46 M and the F87c.

My #1 would be my E92 M3, but the margin is honestly not by much. The reason I'd pick that car is because it's a first and last of its kind. I also have a ton of history with my particular example, I just passed the 10 year mark of ownership. It's also my first M and first car I've ever modded.

What I also find surprising is while I love my Z4M Roadster, the M2C has surpassed it on the list. I still maintain that if you are looking value for money, the Z absolutely wins compared to pretty much all M cars though.

As I mentioned many times, I much prefer having "reasonable" M cars that all have different personalities rather than just 1 expensive car. Only problem is now there's 3 cars nickel and diming me to death

Brand new owner of a 2021 M2C in Sunset Orange with manual transmission, bought just last week in suburban Chicago with only 350 miles on it, and then immediately driven about 850 miles back to my home in CT.

First impressions are .... Wow! What a great combination of a fun, powerful sports car with enough comfort to daily drive. And I haven't even fully opened it up yet because I was still in the break-in period.

My previous "fun" car was a 2019 911 T, which I just sold to get the M2C (and put about an extra $38K in the bank). Just before that I owned a 2015 911 S, and before that a 2018 GT350. I find zero performance drop-off from the 911 T to the M2C, and the M2C is A LOT more comfortable to drive, and much quieter, which is what I needed. (The 911 T has less sound-deadening that the regular 911.) In the Sports Plus mode, the M2C pulls just as powerfully as the 911 T and on the open highway seems to "glide" more effortlessly at high speeds (85-95 mph). I realize I'm commenting on street driving, not track, which does not interest me at all.

Of my recent sports cars, I'd say the GT350 definitely had more giddy-up than the M2C, especially in a straight line, but it did not handle the backcountry twisty roads around me in CT nearly as well as the M2C, which is far more nimble.

Really happy so far, and I can't understand the complaints about power/torque in the M2C. This thing is a rocket, and what a beautifully designed car.
