No one is 100% sure. I’m just doing my part in the community and passing information that I’ve collected. Do I still believe mid June. Yes I do, however, I’m willing to run a JB4 in the mean time until it’s 100% confirmed of the release of bench flash.

I'd like to think I'm being patient but really I'm just hoping to get my break-in miles done by June.

I’ll pull the trigger on a set of turbos as soon as I know the ecu is able to be bench flashed. Until then prob just dp and jb4
To give you an idea I am running full Akra with catless DP's and stage 1 Burger tuning box. I am getting 465 BHP at flywheel and 614 NM torque. The increase from the stock dyno figures is 53 BHP and 80 NM of torque. Like you I hope the DME is cracked sometime as I want to go hybrid turbos eventually!!

Just for information:
My M2C has been assembled mit June 2020 and the DME has an build date of January 2020. Not sure if representative, but there is a timespan of 5 months between DME production and usage in assembly line.

DME production date can be read out with ISTA.

JB4 or other solution is a good option. I don't think DME tuning solution will be available for quite some time. Hope I'm wrong, staying optimistic. But I don't believe anything will happen around this in 2021.

I’m doing CBC and BMS stage 1/JB4 until then 😉 don’t know what’ll fancy my pants around that time haha

Hey Guys

Greetings from Indonesia.

Am trying to verify the following information.

Is it confirmed if the DME is HWEL version 19DE v11_019_002 it can be bench unlocked? Or is there some additional info we need to check.

Based on the info of the previous threads I went ahead and visited a local tuner here with vast experience in this and yet wasn't able to get my DME unlocked using the bench method.

Attaching pics of my HWEL Version and the report from the autotuner software.

HWEL is not an indicator. My Jan built MVED ECU is HWEL version -002.

Another member here who has an unlockable ECU with build date post June 21 also has HWEL version -002. It's not a reliable indicator it seems. Check the DME build date using ISTA.

Edit - unless that's your ECU build date in that pic as 23 June 2020?

Yes, that's correct. My ECU Build Date is 23 June 2020.

Guess I'm out of luck on this...

I'm not sure there is a definitive date that has been determined yet? Just 'sometime in June' appears to be when the swap occurred.

I'm not sure how anyone can put a specific date range like June on unlocking ecu. Generally you're continuing to look for some kind of vulnerability until it's found. Can't possibly see what they could know now that would take 2-3 months to complete. Unless they already found the vulnerability and are working on exploit....

Isn't NathObeaN referring to when BMW started putting the newer locked DMEs in MY21 cars, ie changeover from the bench unlock-able DME to the new version "so far" totally locked DME occurred sometime in June/July 2020?

Correct, but I think ParkPride is referring to this post which suggests a fix is expected June 2021... which I don't buy.

It may or may not have been mentioned but here goes.
This isn't just BMW. This applied to all German auto manufacturers (and likely more) with Bosch engine control modules on July 2020 and on.

This isn't even a BMW lock, it comes from Bosch. From the BMW side of things, the hardware and BMW software in the ecu is exactly the same as older versions.

Correct, hence I am also tracking: https://www.supramkv.com/threads/a91...s-locked.6464/.

Apparently some tuners are now swapping in older DMEs and recoding them (prior to being locked). Although this isn't the best of solutions, at least it's progress.

That's what I'm doing right now for someone. I was able to build a tune on mine straight via OBD, but the other one must have a spare DME built to be able to tune.

Exactly! They still haven't figured out how to OBD flash the M2C's older ECU with the new firmware, and it's been exactly 2 years...

Checked my DME production date via ISTA today... late July production oh well. Guess I'll have to wait in hope that one day, someone will hack these things.

Thoughts? July/Aug 2021 production M2C, but several month older DME? Hmm.

I think you're safe but check with your preferred tuner to confirm.
