Track insurance? If so, tell about that experience a bit if you have time.

No track Insurance.

I'll write a short story about what happened in a few more days.

Rough prototype - rattle can paint, a mig where there will be a tig, etc. Dimensions are where we want them though. Bring on the Docol R8!!!

Wow. Nice job.

Only wish from me is a design that's both safe, and allows passage of tires from the trunk into the rear seat area. Most designs I've seen make that impossible

It already is so - that was a priority during the design. There is 12” on clearance under the back horizontal bar to the oem trunk floor liner.

I’m waiting to get an official quote back from my powdercoater - will have a priced worked up then

Thanks! The details (well everything besides the price - yeah I know kind of important) are set. The material is 1.75" x 0.095" Docol R8. Stronger than chromoly and easier to work with. Same material/size we are using for the cage in our current shop E92 M3 race build.

The prototype was done in mild steel. Next step is to build a full production version with the better material and send it off to powder coat. Everything will be tig welded. Official pics, all that fun stuff, let the games begin.

Probably going to put this one back in the car and snap some pics of the fitment - very happy with how it turned out. Starting work on the close out panel now.

Once we have production ready to go I'll put a post in the sponsor's classifieds

Quick question. How much fab work is required to bolt it in? Does it go into the oem holes in the trunk (behind carpet) and on the rear seat frame? Or do you need to drill and install thread carriers or whatever they're called.

Also, is it going to be 2 pieces for easier shipping or just 1?

Install is pretty straightforward. You will have to drill new holes for the front on the seat frame. None of the oem holes are in a good location to be able to be used properly. After the holes are drilled it just bolts right in with nuts and washers on the bottom that are easy to get to. No threaded inserts or anything like that is used. We will put it back in tomorrow to show how the rear connects - no drilling needed there just bolts right in.

We wanted this to be easy to install, safe, retain as much rear visibility as possible, and allow for tire passage into the void left from the seat removal. Feel like we were able to achieve all of this.

Oh and definitely 2 piece - have no desire to try to ship these as one piece unless specifically requested by a customer. There are couplings/connectors on the prototype in the pic - bit hard to see with the paint.

Ah ya, I can see the connectors.

Thanks for the detailed response. Looking forward to your progress!

Good stuff! Definitely will be keeping an eye out. Need to do this for next year’s DE season.

Update on my Aug HPDE crash

Hey all, I've attached a pic of the car getting ready to be auctioned off as a Salvage Titled car.

Car hit in the absolute worst spot where the Jersey Barrier/tire wall ends in a "V" shape. Pit in/tow track access location.

My Insurance Co covered me for the Accident at the HPDE. It took 9 weeks, with an interview, a download of the data from the OBD II port etc...

I was out lapping in the Instructor Run Group when she snap spun 180 degrees on me. Never had a chance to catch it.

No one in front or behind me at the time. Not pushing very hard either...

Was on a set of Yoko A052's at the end of their heat cycles, but still with tread.

I'm already out shopping the market for a 2019 or 2020 M2C 6 spd built before May 2019. Wht, Blk or Hock Silver.

Need to be able to tune it. :-)

I'm from New England if you know of any cars..

I'm pissed I couldn't get the AP's and the exhaust off it, but was able to swap out a bunch of other items before it was stored at this yard.

To be continued....

Sorry about your loss. Hope you can find something worthwhile in your search for a new car. Thanks for sharing! What insurance were you using?

Sorry to see this but glad you're ok and able to get coverage by your insurance. I saw on another thread that you had a tire failure? Any more details on reason for failure (debris, pressure, sidewall failure)? I ask because I just mounted a pair of new A052s in the rear(!).

Thanks and I hope you find a new ride soon!

I still have no idea what caused the spin. No debris was found on the track that I know of, and I didn't look at the car. Only an independent accident consultant who did the data dump.

As for the Insurance Carrier it was a Local new England Co (Maphre)

Looks like a hard hit - glad you are ok & getting at least some relief from the insurance co. Sucks about the brakes & exhaust but at least it wasn't a total loss.

I was shocked on the settlement..

I got a check for several thousand more than what I originally paid for the car.

I lost about $8k of mods on it...

I'm very pleased and am willing to wait for the right replacement M2C.
