Is an M2 Gran Coupé scheduled ?
Interesting article on Autocar today
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...val-rs3-saloon I'm not sure of its accuracy because I understood the lower power M2 to have been finished due to emission regs; would have thought the S55 was a likely candidate and a comp model only. |

It’s BS, I’m afraid.
As previously covered here on BimmerPost, there will be an M235i with the new B48B20O1 as seen in the new X5 M35i. The UKL architecture is not designed to accommodate an I6, and BMW has no higher output B48 coming any time soon (if ever). |

As long as it's still rwd as suggested I'm fine with it.
I could eventually even live with an X drive system like in F90 M5/G20 M340Xi. Cheers Robin |

Here we go...the gradual bloating that wrecked the 3/4 series now taking hold on the 2. Not sure why every manufacturer feels the need to continue growing cars when it's obvious there are people that WANT small cars. Not because they are cheap, not because they need to fit it in an urban, smaller-is-better environment, but because they are more nimble and enjoyable to drive.
I'd argue that, done right, a really well done small car could demand a premium over a lazy land-barge if satisfying every market niche is the goal. Sell millions? No. But it's obvious that there's desire (at least on BMW's part) to carry multiple platforms to fill every possible want, yet "small" seems a temporary aberration, soon to be rectified by product planners... Just.....no.
So I guess we'll have another future 1M to replace the M2 for when the M2 stops being the spiritual successor to the M3/4 and the M3/4 ends up being a full size sedan/coupe like the S-Class sedan/coupe, and the 8er transforms into a crossover and the 6er comes back as the X5, which ends up being the X10. Great job all around BMW. |

I don't think it's BS in that there is a FWD variant coming. A high performance model with the I6 is probably the only thing not true as the engine is simply too long for transverse mounting.

I would be surprised if it didn't share the platform with the Mini.
This doesn't make me sad. We knew that the FWD platform was coming for the smaller cars. If anything it makes our M2 more special as it could be the last 6 cylinder small coupe. |
