Unique carbon fiber roof question

Imagine a scenario where you just received your 2020 BMW M2 Competition and the shipping company f’d up and they scratched the roof of your car. They admit fault and have you get two estimates and they’re willing to cover it all. They’ll give you $2,500. Do you just get it painted or do you do a carbon fiber roof and pay the difference? And for anyone who’s had it done, what is the total cost? The car is CPO so I would likely be looking to BMW USA to do the swap if that’s even possible. This is unfortunately or maybe fortunately my situation. Granted, I could just do a carbon fiber roof wrap and cover it over and spend money on other stuff but I’d still have the damage there and I’m not crazy about that. It’s honestly pretty minor and not even noticeable to anyone but me, but I still couldn’t live with it the way it is.

And then, maybe a follow-up question is, does a BMW installed OEM carbon fiber roof add to the value or subtract? Obviously, the repaint doesn’t add any value. If anything it devalues. So there’s also that to consider.

I personally like a CF roof on these cars and would go that route if it was a sunroof car. It is not a difficult install for a shop but is a bit time consuming so expect to pay a bit in labor. Combined with the cost of an oem roof that would be a fairly high bill. Do not think it would subtract from the value in any way but do not think you would get the costs of an oem roof + labor back either. We have used an RKP CF roof on an M2 and very happy with the quality, look, and fit - would suggest taking a look at them. If it is a slicktop would say just do what makes you happy and puts a bigger smile on your face each time you look at the car.

This happened to me basically, although not on delivery, and I opted not to. Mostly because of not entirely trusting the shop + pain of buying a new headliner since the sunroof headliner is different.

if the carbon roof is just a looks thing no I would not go through the trouble to get it put on.

if you are building a proper track car then sure could be a nice upgrade if it gets subsidized by what happened.

You are opening yourself up to a whole lot of crap with the CF roof. It's the the one thing BMW has never been able to get right, so do that mod at your own peril.

I would do the CF in a heartbeat, only by the body shop IND uses.

Could you elaborate a bit on this? Genuinely want to know more. Are you saying the CF roofs that come standard on say the F80/82s have issues? Or they used to install them post-delivery and got them wrong and got rid of the option?

I'm saying that there are no perfect CF roofs, only guys that don't look close enough. If you're one of those guys then have at it. If you're a bit OCD like me, skip it entirely (it's just pretty marketing crap anyway).

Ah, got it. Yeah especially the M2CS roof, yikes. Can’t say I’ve seen an F80/82 roof in person though. I’d probably get the RKP one if anything.
