Bmw stopped using this engine on regular series cars, but used it for 1M in 2011 and for 335is between 2011 and 2013. Essentially 2 years that engine was used for 1 low volume model. |

Personally I think they will do it because BMW needs a racecar again...I know they are racing the M6 in a half hearted effort. They need something small that handles well...
Also I think it would be hard to up the boost on the N55/B58 with out ruining the track-ability...when you are making a lot of boost it takes a while for it to spool up. My N55 is great at 17psi, but it takes a while to get there.

About time to tick at least three more boxes that didn't make it to the final cut for the base M2 (but were mentioned in marketing materials).

Well, this should be a cool car. My guess is that this "full-fat" M2 will be ala the M4 GTS, and probably be as rare and almost as costly. But I guess we'll see...

BMW priced the M2 where it did for a reason. They built the car to be an entry point to the M-car line up. If they put the S55 in to a series production M2, they create a problem on the performance side of things. The M2 is already nipping at the M4's heels. They'd also eliminate a key differentiator of the M4. Both of these are significant challenges for BMW.

Man people are slow on this site... this engine IS NOT going in the regular M2... this would be a death wish on the part of BMW and the resale of the current N55 M2... also how would they price this car? Same as an M3? OK
This is for a specific variant called the CS which I am almost sure will cost 90 to 100K... |

I wouldn't expect to see BMW develop the N55 further. If anything, a B58-based engine would make more sense than a further developed N55. The B58 uses an air-to-water intercooler system that is integrated in to the intake, which would also be a plausible explanation for a lack of FMIC on this car.

So what is the conclusion? No M2 after MY 2017? and M2 CS will take over its place?
N55 M2 - MY 2015 - MY 2017 S55 M2 CS - MY 2018 - MY 2020?? In the video, it actually sounds like an M2 with S55 (more closer to M3/M4 exhaust). The billion dollar question is: What will happen to the current M2? To me, looks like the CS variant will be more expensive.
