I'm curious about the price how much more this will be over the regular M2.

An S55 M2 CSL sounds incredibly exciting and I would be willing to spend more on that than I would an M3/M4. That said the way you save this from eating into M3/M4 sales it by pricing it higher than it needs to be priced and making it in limited numbers. That is what I would expect. And sorry to the folks wanting this engine in the base M2, I thought it was a possibility at one time but have since given up hope.

I also just saw an M2 for the first time at the track yesterday, was LBB, stunning car and much better looking in person than I expected. It also has a bigger presence in person than I imagined from looking at pictures, very akin in size to the e46 m3.

Anyway, great to hear this is a possibility and if this is coming in M2 CSL variety, take my money now!

More buzz this way. It's working!

Why not stick with the M2 and then get this CS when it's available? I believe it's a pretty safe bet that you'll lose less money selling the M2 than a M140i in a year or 2. May have to pay a bit more up front but you'll make it back on the back end.

Just a guess, but probably in some meeting room at the BMW M HQ in Garching: "Let's put some camo tape over it and it will be picked up by the interwebs in no time. Let the hype commence".
Yes, hype, but this is also free market research for Munich.

S55 squeezed into the base M2 engine compartment and the test mule doesn't feature a power dome to host it all.

So, if the final version of this angry M2 puppy gets a power dome à la M3 and M4, we know that it's just for show.

If this is true then 2016-17 M2 production numbers would be interesting to watch.

as an update on NA Production:

Through Sept 15, 2016 about 1200 (713 MY16 and 586 MY17) North American 1H9C vehicles have been produced. About 400 NA MY17 from 8/24 through 9/15. (that would be 133/week).

If you have an MY16, hang on to it if you can! No iDrive but.......

If BMW intends to make the M2 CSL a specialty model (like the M4 GTS), I wouldn't find it surprising at all. I also wouldn't find it surprising to see the price tag at >$90k.

I expanded on why in a post from the other M2 CSL thread:

It sounds like this car is going to get a designation: M2 CS, M2 GTS, etc. Contrast this to standard series production models like the M4 with the ZHP package. Colloquially, we call this the M4 ZHP or M4 CP, or M4 Comp Pkg, but as far as BMW are concerned, it's an M4 with an option package. This is very different from specialty models like the M4 GTS, or even (recent) historical models like the E46 M3 CSL, E92 M3 GTS, or E90 M3 CRT.

All of the historical examples we have of specialty models — cars with their own model, not just an option package — were limited run cars with a price bump to reflect their limited run status.

If this model gets the S55 and a special model designation like M2 CSL/GTS/etc, I think we can also expect to see a limited run and pricing to match.

Strategically, these models work for BMW in two ways:

They create a halo car within the model-line. You can certainly go much further back, but the E46 M3 CSL is a good example of this strategy. That car is widely regarded as one of the best drivers cars of its time.

They create a price anchor for high-end BMW products. BMW needs consumers to remain accustomed to the idea that BMW is a premium brand. Selling-out models at $130k helps maintain that idea.

So treating history as a template for the future, I think it's pretty easy to predict that the M2 CS/CSL/GTS/etc will be limited-run, and will carry a price tag that makes sense for BMW, but not so much enthusiasts.
The costs associated with using an S55 in the M2 CSL and the N55 in the base M2 aren't that high. BMW's production facilities are highly optimized for this sort of production. When you consider the price premium associated with historical specialty models, it makes even more sense.

M2CS @The Ring with new setup ?

I know its in a hard down force corner but the suspensions looks lower to me than standard !
Testing new race setup ? or just upgraded for CS ?? Adaptive M Suspension ??? option ?
Looks like more money to me !
That is why it has camo on the lower half!

I feel like waiting for the right BMW to buy is like waiting for a Latin woman to admit she's wrong, you'll die long before you see either and there's typically a better model every year.

Oh what, you just bought an M2?

Brah! The M2 (insert whatever) is coming and it's going to wipe the floor with your less than year old M2, but it's okay, BMW does this all the time.

Judging ride height by a shot taken mid-Karussell would be a mistake I wouldn't be surprised if it were lower, but they're taking the Karussell at full pace there, so you're looking at the lower limit of the suspension travel. It's not unusual to hit the bump stops there.

Porsche is updating their models quite often.
See the differences between 991 & 991.2, also new Boxter/ Cayman...
There will always be a new/ better model due to the better and better rivals in all segments.

So when can we start using the "Civic M2" meme for the current owners?

Also: impossible to see the color of the brake calipers in the video.

Maybe we'll get to see yellow ones in the future ?

The n55 is over, so produce it only for m2 and x4 m40i is crazy. So s55 or b58 evo at 390 to keep distance from m4 and 240i?

If we think it will be $10k, you know it will be at least $15k! Then the m2 becomes a $75k car. I'm having another thought. Then the 2016-2017 still remains a bit of a collector for what it does at the cost. Either that or the price drops like hell because no one wants one. If they boost the m4 to $90k, I don't see who will want that either. Tough call.

Shouldn't come as a surprise if it's an S55 underhood. There's precedent for M models to get an engine swap mid-life (E36, Z3 M...), and many of us assumed this would happen even before the M2 was initially released. Bring it on
